165mph with top off. Plenty left, too. Sounded like a tornado. It is kinda like taking acid as a youth. I would never do it again but I am glad I tried it :)

It floats. There were bugs dropping dead as they got caught between the top lifting from the windshield frame in what must have been the amazing wind tunnel ever experienced. Unfortunately they never lived to tell the other bugs about it.

Steve, I would have expected the reverse with a faster speed with the top on. I would have thought of less wind turbulence with the top on and a resulting higher speed. So Nolo Comprende (I just don't git it).

Gerald,

The 145 shot was the end of fourth gear(or very close) I then remembered something about the top maybe not being good for more than that and shut down.
It literally only took seconds to get to 145. I believe I went from 35 in 3rd to 145 and back down to 70 in about .6 miles and 20 seconds of time. I didn't tap 5th at all on that run.

280 km/hr which is right around 175 until my side glass popped out of its channel. Not a good thing, as I was determined to max the thing out, not even close, still pulling.......

(next time drop the side glass a touch before runs)

154MPH with the top off. It really is a hurricane in the cockpit at that speed. I wasn't trying to go that fast, I just had a buzzy Honda who thought that he was Speed Racer, so I hit the warp button (gas pedal) and a few seconds later I looked down and was surprised that I was going that fast.

Realistically, between highway traffic and less-than-perfect roads, there aren't that many places to drive that fast around here. And most of the nice 5-lane straight/smooth highways are harshly patrolled.

165 in 5th, The car had more, but I was out of room. Felt really good too at that speed. I did find the transition from accelerating to braking a bit odd though. The car seemed to float or waiver as I hit the binders. Anyone else have a similar experience?

about 155 mph in cincinnati on I75, no top and eyes like saucers lookin for cops. ill never do it again cause it felt too easy for the [******] car. amazing how little of a touch to the steering wheel elicits such a HUGE response to the whole car movement at that speed.

I'll probably go faster than 115 MPH at Viper Days at Mid-Ohio in 2 weeks. I'd like to make it to Bowling Green, but after Viper Days I'll be out of money for a while - I'm not getting called in to work as a substitute teacher the 4 days per week I asked for & many weeks I haven't been called in at all. I may be forced to get a real job soon to pay for my Viper frolics.

Let's just say that my YELLOW! YELLOW! YELL OH! Viper got to 115 MPH so fast that it scared me and I chickened out on going any faster. Twice. Can your Viper do that? :smirk:

I know what you mean Kat. Sometimes I just laugh at how fast this car accelerates. It can be a little scary even at 475hp.

Just find a long onramp to a highway and let her rip. I have an onramp about 20 minutes away that I can get her to 150 mph. I typically go at least 100 mph every time I drive my viper. I guess I am lucky to live in a place with less than a million people. If you have it use it!! Full tilt baby!!

180 MPH in 97' GTS still more to go..
185 MPH 99' 650R alot more to go...
??? Waiting to get my new fuel pump in before I do a high speed run with SC'er. So far 140 mph.

Got a question?? How much power will it take to pull 6th gear to 220MPH?? Come on all you engineers...

Hopefully Paolo will chime in. He can answer that immediately.

For me only 145 so far, of course top off. Plenty of room around here, I just haven't pushed her yet.

For some reason, this thread made me think of this quote.

If you could rev the engine to 6400 RPM with the stock 5th gear, you could hit 220 MPH with about 700 RWHP==> 700 RWHP X 3.07 X .74 = 1590 RWHP multiple. Now take 700 RWHP X 3.07 X .5 = 1074 RWHP mult. Now consider a 460 RWHP Viper with headers 460 RWHP X 3.07 X .74 = 1045 RWHP mult. So 700 RWHP is minimized to the level of a stock Viper with headers when it(700 RWHP) is put into 6th.

The car would also have to be at or near the torque peak @ 4300 RPM and have 1036 RWHP to pull 220 MPH in .50 6th=>1036 X 3.07 X .5= 1590. Or the car would have to have 700 RWHP in .74 5th=> 700 X 3.07 X .74 = 1590 and a torque peak @ 6400 RPM(And of course the capability of the engine to rev that high would be nice too.

So what I am saying is that both scenarios above will pull equally hard at their respective torque peaks. Both will pull 220 if and only if the torque curve for the motor coincides with the RPM of the motor and the gearing for that speed.

160 with the top off...was closing fast on some civilians, and not wanting any "collateral damage", I had to shut it down...Dunno who let the beforementioned civilians onto my "private track"...but I am looking into it...

Kenny...the "go pedal" is the one on the right...115 is freakin "on ramp speed"!!! You're killing me!

The other day, on a 6 lane divided very rural highway (pork barrel project), I was frolicking and if I had known that this 30 mile stretch had no official guardians of the posted speed limit on it I would have easily cleaned my spark plugs by hitting 6000 RPM in 4th (151 MPH) and maybe even tried the same upper RPMs in 5th...(204 MPH).

Closer to home the highways are too overcrowded to hit 115 MPH on the on ramps because you'd have to hit the brake right away because you'd be almost hitting the cars ahead of you already on the highway...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

One other thing...

I've tried frolicking in 1st and 2nd gears and while my Viper accellerates real fast at 1/2 throttle, it seems to want to spin the rear tires the entire time and leave 2 wide black lines on the street for the entire length of the frolic.

Just how do you get maximum accelleration with the stock tires? It seems that giving it more throttle might even slow me down because I'd be spinning more instead of accellerating faster. I suspect I need to work on my size 15 right foot traction control on this. Am I correct?

95 RT10 with K&N filters slightly modified exhaust no top and no side or back window. 174 in The Silver State Challange last year. If you want to go fast this is the place to do it.
