Sure you can.I've driven stick with a cast on my right hand at another time a cast knee down on the left leg..Then there was the time I had knee down casts on both legs.Does tend to make shifting akward and slow you down somewhat. Bruce

OH YES THERE IS!
You shift with your right hand! Right?
OK, go out and get some "Velcro". Glue a piece to the palm of your cast, and glue the other half to the steering wheel. All you have to do is kept the car straight!

Joe, Sorry to hear about your problems. I had shingles 3 times after going through chemo and radiation (cancer treatments) and know how freakin painful they are. I am in Philadelphia area also so if you need me to come by and take you for a ride in that viper let me know. You don't want that thing sitting too long, its bad for the seals.

You need to talk to your Doctor.

Get him to refer you to an Occupational Therapist with the following request.

Please evaluate and treat to provide with adaptive equipment in order to drive a Standard Transmission car.

Here's a template.

To whom it may concern:

Mr Dge Viper1 is an X year old man who is one week status post surgical repair of a torn Ulnar collateral ligament of his right first metacarpal phalangeal joint. He will need to be immobilized in a cast for 3 months. In order for him to be independent in daily activities it is medically necessary that he be evaluated by an Occupational Therapist to be provided with adaptive equipment so he can operate a standard transmission vehicle.

Without such adaptive equipment he is at risk for reinjuring his surgical repair and may require a second procedure.

Sincerely,

Dr Beau N Doctor, M.D.

Maybe that will work.

Sorry about your accident. I am in Keystone right now! I tried snowboarding today and like to beat me to death! I hope you recover well.

If you have a choice, get your custom thumb spica splint from a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). You will be out of the woods at 6 weeks as the collagen healing commences to bone. Having a splint will let you take it off once in a while to keep the smell down.

my dad almost had his left leg amputated because he split it in half at the knee on a bike accident. he still drove a stick - was the funniest thing ever, he used his left crutch to push the clutch in....... only did it when he had to though...
