How and where do these tow hooks mount? Most of the ones I've seen don't have holes so I'm assuming they weld on?? Thanks for the help??

I've researched the hell out of tow hooks. There are a number of different lengths/widths and styles as you can see from the pictures below. I plan on purchasing a set after I get my current projects done.

Front tow hooks: The most common are flat 3/16" thick steel and are approximately 4" wide at the base and then narrow towards the outer end. Usually one or two 2" diameter holes (sometimes 1.5" diameter, but I've heard that some tracks require 2"). They vary from 7" to 10" long. The base (flat area attached to the viper) is 1 to 1.25" at the bend (90 degree bend). The two bolts that they attach to on my GEN II are 2.875" apart, but these mounting holes are usually slots for some added forgiveness. Some (Archer Racing) have a support piece welded where the bend is towards the base.

Rear tow hooks: The most common are flat 3/16" steel and has a bend (I don't know the dimension of the bend) between the tow hook and the base. One 2" diameter hole. The base attaches to the slanted end of the frame. The base plate on my GEN II is 4.25" x 2.375". A lot of the rear tow hook bases are much wider than 2.375". There are two mounting holes (3/8") in the base that require holes to be drilled through the frame for mounting.

Sorry, wrote that one too fast. I meant that thicker is better in the general sense (not that 3/16ths wasn't thick enough).

I have the Archer ones on the street car and they work fine though I haven't been towed out of any kitty litter or out of a ditch, thankfully.

The ones on the racecar are 1/4 thick and when I'm lazy and only going a mile or two, I use the front one as the tie-down in the trailer. I don't think the front Archer one would handle the downward bending very well.

You'll be fine with 3/16ths but if you have the option to go thicker, go for it.
