For amateur track use which do you guys who do road courses recommend and why?

The RA 1's most likely have less grip but longer life, the Dunlops are the reverse.

I have experience with neither but currently run Hoosier slicks and are pretty happy with the grip, and they seem to wear pretty well for track tires, 6-700 miles.

If anyone has experience with this pair (or relative to the Hoosiers) I'd like to know what you's do if you were buying them again today.

Thanks in advance.

I've run the Toyos for about 3 years now. Although the Hoosier slicks will be faster at the start of a session the Toyos are more consistent and do not drop off as fast as the slicks. I've also run the Dunlop slicks and they are better than the Hoosier slick. The Toyos can be had in a variety of sizes. To maximize tire wear I often run 335's all the way around so that they can be rotated side to side and front to back.

Do you run 13" or 11" wheels on the front?

The toyos should be shaved for track use, they will last longer, the hoosier is a superior tire in every way, The slicks you are talking about , are the DOT or real track only slicks? If they are indeed slicks, your suspension needs to be optimized for them, as they are a lot different from DOT.

Also if your car is insured, the DOT on the tire makes a big diff in if they will pay the claim or not. No DOT on sidewall, no pay out, if they have the brains to look.

Call JonB and ask about the Kumho's.

Thanx Duc......I have feet-on experience with all but the Donlops.

Hoosier is fastest, and spendier.

RA1 lasts, and is about $1400/set, but the RA1 is discontinued in favor of the 888. RA1 ok WET, my wife has em on her Z06 and Doris has em on her RT10 Pace Car.

I urge you to try the 305/335 18" Kumho, a fully treaded, sticky DOT at under $1000 for all 4 ! $ / mile great performance and value, and STICKY....a tad slower than Hoosier, but safer and decent if wet..... Hoosier is treacherous.
