Trying my hand at photography and the Viper again interested in your guys opinion

Hey all,

After seeing some truly amazing Viper photos on here, I started studying a bit on what I saw that I liked in the best of the best photos. I thought I'd clean the car and for once with a decent background location try my hand at some more photos of my car. I borrowed my Dad's cannon which is a pretty decent camera I guess and just wanted to know what you guys that are good at this think? Out of like 100 photos I got 2 that I liked lol and they are below, they were huge files so I reduced their size for the internet at 1000px. Anyway just curious if you guys think these are poor, fair, good, great etc.

Thanks guys, I just had them printed out on high end photo paper at 16X20 size and they look amazing in person, the cloudiness must be from me resizing them for the web (didn't want to post 6meg pics). On a computer screen I just can't do them justice now that I've seem them in print.

I hear what you are saying flatout about the angles, but to me (and my novice opinion lol) the angles on this forum of the cars are what got to me the most, I ablsolutely love them shot that way. I'll try more angles and less agressive and see, but to me looking right now over the table at the framed pics in print the angles make it seem sooooo agressive I just love it.

Get rid of the watermark. Can't see anything through it. If you are just starting out, I wouldn't worry too much about people "stealing" your pics. And as stated above, I don't really like tilting my head that much to look at a picture.

hey cfiiman...i work in automotive commercials here and there and one piece of advice i would give you is to use a higher focal length...the minimum we use is a 55, and the typical is 80...its nice to stand farther back and then get the shot from there, and then crop as needed...choosing the f-stop is preference on how blurry you want the background...if you have any questions or anything just shoot me a message...good luck on the shooting, its looking good!

Andy (Flatout) and I both write/shoot for automotive magazines. He was dead on about the angles, anything over 10 degrees is a rookie mistake. All you need is a subtle angle (sometimes) to make a photo pop. Never tilt like that when you have background items that could be used as a frame of reference (horizon lines, buildings, trees, oceans, etc...) Tilt shots are usually taken in broad areas with no point of reference. Shots on the road with tilt are fine, because they can simulate banked turns on a racetrack.

The post-processing is overdone. The idea is to enhance a photo without it looking like it was processed. Usually a little bit of contrast, sharpness, and a touch of saturation can achieve excellent results.

The main goal is to practice! If you have the desire to learn, that is the start.
