Looking for a twin turbo GTS car and have found a few in the same ballpark price range, would like your opinions on these, both are in fantastic shape with under 15K miles. First one is a B/W 1996 with a heffner twin turbo set up, stop tech brakes, NX express, line lock, and looks to be babied most of it's life. The second is a solid red 1998 with a CPE twin turbo with transmission upgrade and half shaft upgrade with KW shocks and CCW wheels.

What is a better twin turbo set up? Not familiar with CPE, I have always heard some good things about Heffner in magazines but not from anyone I know. Any advise would be great, I appreciate it! :drive:

Not trying to be a smarty pants. But I'd try searching Heffner and CPE on here and the "other" site. If it were my money, I'd be looking at the Heffner car. But you know how opinions are.....

i like paolos kit but heffner has been proven. either way a very good inspection needs to be done before you buy it. and make sure that person KNOWS turbos and vipers.

I've tried a search on this site for CPE with no luck, is it an uncommon system? Does anyone know a good shop in DFW are that can inspect this car that knows turbo Viper set ups?

Have ART (American Racing Technology) look each car over. They are near Buda, not sure how far that is for you.

Heffner is a tuner/custom package, CPE was intended to be a DIY package.

I know ART well, they work on my RT/10 and are only 40 miles away, issue is these two cars are not in town, one is 300 miles away the other is 1300 miles away. Doubt they would make a trip to ART to get inspected. Looking for local shops in Dallas and WV to ispect each car.

Not enough details to make a comment. I personally would only buy an underground car as that is who I have experience with (two cars). You might consider calling heffners shop to ask about the car to see what they remember about it. If all is the same, I'd likely go with the heffner car personally.

Sorry, I thought the cars were close to you.

I thought the B/W in WV already sold to someone in TX?

Cody and DW should be familiar with Jason's work though. Depending where in WV, I might be able to look at it for you.

As mentioned, Heffner is a known and respected tuner. CPE offers an aftermarket TT kit. Not to say there's anything wrong with the CPE TT kit, but a Heffner or UG turbo car will bring better money and will hold its value better.

I agree with 1fast400, UG is tops when it comes to TT systems. Given the choice, I'd look for a UG car, then a Heffner car, some other reputable tuner TT car, then a CPE, lastly a home made TT car.

I will agree with myself, buy the Heffner car. :)

On a serious note...I would recommend calling Jason Heffner (941-359-0900) and discussing the car for sale. While he may not know the complete history of the car, he may know a lot more than others since it was built by him.

You may also want to consider shipping the car directly to Jason if you choose the Heffner TT. He can look the car over top to bottom, make recommendations , upgrades, repairs and then ship it to your home. This way you know you have a TT car ready to go.

Good luck in your search.

id more concerned with the tuning than the kit/setup. kep in mind, MOST tuners wont tune another tuners setup. if they dont build it, they tend not to wanna tune it.

talk to whoever is going to deal with the tune if there is a problem before you buy it. see if they will help you out BEFORE you buy it.

id call heffner NOW, ART shortly after since hes closest to you and is very capable of tuning

Guys I think your talking about my buddies car here in West Virginia! His name is Tom and he's a very nice guy. The car is in great shape and worth every penny he is asking for it, in my opinion he is selling it way to cheap... The car is in Huntington WV! I have not seen the car since summer but I would gladly go look at the car front to back to give the buyer a current ideal of the condition. He lives 2 or 3 miles from me so its no problem!

If you wouldn't mind checking out the car for me as far as current visiual condition, if the engine sounds okay or is off idle, etc. If you could take some pictures or better yet a short video of it at idle I would greatly appreciate it. Trying to see what a full leak down and compression test would cost in that area as well.

Another option would be to fly out a tech to inspect the vehicle. If you have the coin to drop on a TT Viper, then you can afford a $500 plane ticket for a mechanic that can give you a definitive thumbs up or thumbs down. The input from the tuner is invaluable; they'll be able to tell you if it's a screamin' deal or be able to pinpoint EXACTLY how much money you'd have to spend to get it where it should be.
