If you want all the info on the car (and pics) just go over to the Alley. They treat eveyone the same over there and don't play these silly little games

Actually, I thought the move was genius. Look how many indifferent members came around and wanted to be counted? Anyone can get second-hand news. Membership should have its rewards, not headaches. Here's to hoping things look up...

btw- this whole vca vs alley mentality is nonsense.

Um, yeah. See, this is the Viper Club of America website (look up at the top). It's a car club. With paid memberships like most other car clubs. And like most other car clubs, the members are entitled to certain benefits. In this case the benefit just happened to be that if you were a paid member you got to see this car before anybody else in the country - outside of DCX. Not a bad benefit if you consider it. And the VCA didn't just happen to find it in the dumpster behind DCX, we were given the information and exclusive pictures directly by SRT.

The Alley is a website. Not a car club. No paid memberships. No ties to DCX. And you know what? That is just fine. It's a great site and I personally visit it as much as any site out there. Actually a site supporter over there for some time too ($$$). And that offers benefits in and of itself. But it is not a car club and that is not the focus over there. It is a place for like minded people to hang out and discuss whatever they want. Indeed, look at the forum listings almost any time and you will see that those like "Anything Goes" have three times more viewers than any Viper or car forum. Here it is exactly the opposite.

If I want to talk Vipers, chat with SRT engineers, or get the very latest Viper news directly from DCX/SRT first, I come here. If I want to talk about anything else, I go over there. Contrary to popular belief, the websites seem to coexist just fine.

Want to get presale tickets for a concert? Join the band's fan club (I am in Tool Army and got great seats this last year). Want to get early information or other things regarding the Dodge Viper? Join the VCA. If you just want to talk about the band or hear the concert recording later, there are plenty of websites that cater to that. And they do indeed treat everybody just the same.

No worries, now that our members have seen the info/pictures first and other sites now have belated copies, we will post it here as well. Enjoy. :2tu:

Custom Viper displays tweaks from Mopar Performance Parts – and 675 horsepower!

Farmington Hills, Mich., January 9 /EXCLUSIVE from viperclub.org/ -- Much speculation has been made since the first details were released on the 2008 Dodge Viper scheduled to appear this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Of course today is the day you were supposed to be reading about it, however some magazine editions hit the newsstands – and websites – a little earlier. Viper buyers, already giddy over the addition of a whopping 90 horsepower (yes, 600 total ponies under that revised hood) still had one nagging worry in the back of their minds: What about this long-rumored “Blue Devil” from the “other” American super car camp?

They needn’t have worried. In a surprise addition to this weeks show, DaimlerChrysler’s Mopar and SRT (Street & Racing Technology) Division have added a third Viper in concept form, joining the Venom Red SRT10 Roadster and Viper Red SRT10 Coupe with white racing stripes. Reminiscent of the SRT10 Carbon shown at SEMA in 2003, this latest Coupe variation showcases the many possibilities of this potent platform.

“We at SRT, along with our counterparts at Mopar Performance, wanted to build something for NAIAS that would show what can be done with the new '08 Viper,” said Steve Sharples, Viper Brand Manager at SRT. “This includes many of the new Mopar Performance parts which will be available for the car when it starts shipping to showrooms later this year.”

The Mopar Performance Parts featured are:

- Tubular Exhaust Header Package
- High-flowing, Cat-Back Exhaust System
- Low-restriction, functional Cold Air Intake System
- Fully adjustable Coilover Suspension Kit
- "Sidewinder" Lightweight Wheels (with anodized finish)

And don’t forget the “Racing” in SRT, as they added these race-inspired parts as well:

- Titanium Valves and Connecting Rods
- Cast Litex Pistons and Lightened Crankshaft
- High Flow Intake Manifold with Polished Upper
- Carbon Fiber Coil Covers and Crinkle Black Valve Covers
- Adapted Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Rear Wing and Front Splitter
- Michelin Racing Slicks, 18" in front and 19" in back
- 6 point racing restraints
- Viper "Driver's Stripe" paint scheme

The results? Well besides one of the most stunning Vipers ever to greet the public, it also satisfies the Viper faithful. With a few Mopar Performance parts and some additional internal engine tweaks the car makes an incredible 675 horsepower, with the torque climbing even more – from the impressive stock 2008 number of 560 ft lbs to a mind-boggling 650 ft lbs. You would be hard-pressed to find another exotic from any continent making those kind of numbers.

Will these modifications ever make it to a production car? SRT will not comment on future product. But if what is shown here can be done by visiting your local Mopar parts counter, we already like what we see. Blue Devil shmevil!

Y2K -- Thanks again for posting this great information. I am first on the waiting list at my dealer for an 08 convertible and will keep monitoring this site for updates. If these parts do not interfere with streetability/emissions I will be very interested in having these parts installed at delivery. Jon B has previously mentioned that there may be an issue with federal certification of the SRT internal engine upgrades (pistons, titanium valves rods, etc). Does this mean that such parts would interfere with emissions testing? If yes, then I wonder what hp gain would result from installig just Mopar parts (headers, cold air intake and cat back exhaust). I would be happy foregong the SRT internal engine mods so long as the Mopar parts result in a gain of any where from 615-650 hp. Anyone have any thoughts?

Only Parts? DC build the dang car instead for $100k MSRP to compete with the possible release of the next Corvette hot rod. Chevy is rumored to be releasing a supercharged Z06 with 650HP for around $100k and calling it a Corvette SS.

I think you can safely assume that the combination of parts will net at least those numbers. From what I have heard and read, the new internals were nothing more than beefier parts.

Parts? What parts? The ones that MIGHT be available someday, maybe?

This was one of the dumbest marketing moves i have ever seen. I think DC is really lost without Lutz.

As mentioned in the release, Mopar will be producing headers, exhaust, and cold air intake for the 08... While I am unsure they will make it on a production model, i think at a minimum you can buy them as a mopar accessory.

Yep, if you read just about ANY other car forum (Vette, Mustang, Ferrari, etc.) they are ALL talking about this car. And most with a "incredible!" response. Rest assured it was a superb bit of marketing. And why would a company feature it in a major worldclass manufacturers auto show if there weren't some realistic expectations to come from it? So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. And that is what it is all about.

Rest assured it was a superb bit of marketing. And why would a company feature it in a major worldclass manufacturers auto show if there weren't some realistic expectations to come from it? So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. And that is what it is all about.

Unbelievable isn't it? First 600hp wasn't good enough, now they whine about another 75hp of add-ons.

The only people unimpressed about the new Viper are Viper owners. Must be their high standards. :rolleyes:

Concurring with you, THIS Viper owner opines that the new 08 offering, complete with upgrade potential from the dealer, is a GREAT package. Sadly, though, some posters here would be disappointed with ANY new offering because of their "not invented by me" myopia. Thankfully I do not live a life of pessimism, especially about THE HIGHEST HP AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR EVER OFFERED FOR PRODUCTION. My gosh, how cool is that? Is it perfect? What is? I do know that it is a DAMN good offering, and those serious about performance Vipers that can afford it will probably have one in the garage.

Furthermore, looking back over the threads about "what would you want in the 08 Viper" vane, DC really stepped up and included numerous performance features that were mentioned on this board, and in a relatively short period of time.

The continuously escalating expectations of some are simply laughable. Oh well, they are the ones losing out on this excitement. Pity for them.

If they had plans to build this as a real option I would agree. They got great press when they introduced the Gen III Viper too, but then what came off the assembly line was completely different.

If they had plans to make it happen, they should state that. An expensive press release to say 'look what we could do if we wanted' isn't very valuable since you are selling what you don't have. They could have just wheeled out another concept car, or motorcycle with a Viper engine.

You aren't a marketing guy, are you. The old adage, of any press is good press doesn't hold. If you keep crying wolf about what could be and don't deliver it ruins a reputation. Like I said bad marketing move again.

Still not sure about the stripe but this picture is truely aweseome... No stripe and no wing with the mamba red interior please...

Love the hood in this pic. Can anyone confirm if this is the stock 08 hood or not?

I stand on the official release of 600HP as a GREAT offering. Any additional power is gravy.

Obviously, you and I disagree. You are negative campaigning and waiting for your perfect car, and I will "make do" with just 600HP and whatever upgrades are available for more, just like I'm in the meantime "making do" with my 05 with 535HP from the dealer.

Whatever floats your boat. Enjoy the wait.

Um, actually I am - and a very successful one at that. The car is drawing people like almost no other even in the previews. Rest assured that people will by that base car with "only" 600 HP and then consider these upgrades. And perhaps the factory will as well. It is a marketing hit with pretty much everybody except you.
