I used a suction cup mount and it worked great but left a round mark on my dash where the suction cup was. I'd like to have a good alternative too.

It is just a flash bracket for mounting an off-camera flash. Your local camera store should have one for about $15. The straps are just generic straps from the hardware store.

Yea, its attached with c-clamps and duct tape...
I have no clue where the interior came from as the whole photo was supposed to be a humorous lift for everybody, now I am getting concerned!

Can you tell me what kind of C clamps to use? Is there any special type of duct tape you would suggest for the install?

8, so nobody gets hurt, that was a photshop made-up, not real, humorous joke picture. Nobody should strap anything on their steering wheel. However, I do have a brdige for sale. The revenues from the tolls alone would make you comfortable for life...
I don't understand the last post... I have the C clamps installed on my steering wheel with camera attached but do not understand where the duct tape should be used. Would this be used from the steering wheel to the brake pedal to hold the steering wheel straight up and down for filming?

Tested my new Video mount today. Can't wait to try it on the track.

It sticks to my hard top and drops down to fit my video camera. (Don't think it would work that way on a SRT-10.) The Video comes in upside-down but it's easy to flip (you have to flip it horizontal and vertically) in Windows Video player.

Not bad for a $70 mount. Sticks like glue should have no problem on the track.
I realize I need to move it toward the driver’s side so I am not getting so much of the mirror. And I realize I have some spelling errors. (Did the video in less then 5 min)

Well... I tested my steering wheel camera mount but it didn't go too well. I arrived at turn 2 at Laguna Seca and fount that the steering wheel wouldn't turn and I was not able to brake because of the duct tape attached from the steering wheel to the brake pedal. I went off the track into the gravel right through the fence and onto the exit road. The good news was my home was a straight shot from the track.
I don't know who cam up with this mount idea but it needs a bit more work.
By the way, most track events will not allow a suction cup mounts. They want everything bolted down with a safty strap so they wont come loose and hit the driver while on the track.

I used to use a camera for a short time, but found that an external cam does a much better job and much more versatility. At chasecam, they sell very good ones. They just came out with a very high rez model. I love it. http://www.chasecam.com/bulletcam.htm
These external cams just plug into many of your existing cameras. You can then put your camera in your glove box and all you'll have is a single wire that runs to the little lens. You just need to make sure your camera will take an external video feed, many do (even older ones).
I bought a tiny miniDV Canon video cam. I put it in the center console of my SRT. There is also a power plug there. It couldn't be more perfect. All I do is hit record on the camera and close the consol. I've gotten a lot of people in our club hooked on them, they're great.
Obviously cameras are very heavy, this causes them to shake (and also limits where you can mount them). The little bullet cam I use can be mounted anywhere. I even mount it outside of my car behind my wheels to get some unbelievable shots! I've also put them aimed in my wheel well when I was trying to diagnose some tire rub issues... Under the car... Very cool.
If you want to see the quality of the video, follow this link to the IL club's website. Click on the “racing” video. In there you’ll see lots of footage from the bullet cam. I highly recommend them. Just read your manual to be sure your cam will take an external analog video feed via RCA cable.

Somebody on this site recommended raceproof.com at one time. I haven't ordered a camera yet.
I've had that mount for sometime. Similar in concept to what we use in the film industry. The problem with it, is that you need additional bracing. The cup itself acts as a tuning fork, and you get a bunch of vibration. With additional rigging it will work ok. I like the bullet cams (lipstick, security, etc.). These cameras are lightweight and very easy to rig. The problem with most of them is that they provide an analog signal. This means that the video recorder that you use must have an analog to digital converter. Most digital cameras came with this feature in the past. This feature enabled you to transfer your old high8 and other non digital videos to a digital format. Most of the newer cameras have eliminated this feature as an cost cutting edge. Additionaly you will have to use a seperate mic. with most cameras. A note about the lipstick cams, most overstate their lines of resolution. Your best bet is buy from a reputable source. Better yet if you can actually view them in action.

Made this mount myself. Wanted something that was bolt on. Also have a chase cam mounted to the screw hole of the passenger visor mount. Brackets you see is using the rear hatch mount points. No problems with vibration.
