While trying to educate myself and narrow down the search for a GTS, I would love to hear some opinions.

Based on factory model yr differences only (like abs, etc.), would you buy a low mile 1996 or 2002 or are they the same in your opinion?

Is there a significant ride difference on the streeet with an ACR?

While I have driven all of the Vipers mentioned above, I really have no particular preference since once on the Viper plateau, you are already on a plain of unique experience and fun. That said, I would suggest that you shoot for the best, newest Viper that fits your allotted budget.

I agree with Steve, but don't sweat the mileage as much as how it was taken care of during those miles. These cars can go a long time if taken care of correctly. At 100,000 miles it needs no more than any other car.

Unless your low miles 96 is the classic, and desirable Blue/White, might as well go the the later model.

ABS is a usefull option. Loved my 96, but the brakes were much better on later models.

As others have said the later model ABS cars have bigger rear brakes, a far better brake bias, ABS, a better, larger radiator fan and self-bleeding cooling system. Read about the differences between the years and Forged vs cast pistons (Forged tend to make a little more power) and decide what best suits you.

Great question, some times the hunt can be really fun. I've owned 3 Gen 2 GTS cars (1 was an '01 ACR). The ACR definitely rode much stiffer, but still manageable. You will want to know the condition of the stocks or have it inspected prior to purchase (ACR) as they are costly. If not tracking, then GTS is probably more logical and comfortable. ABS is on '01-'02 cars. Shifter is also different and larger wheels when compared to '96. My favorite is probably the '02 Final Edition GTS, as I've owned 2 of them. Good luck with the search! I like your advice, my 1st choice would be ACR final edition, but I may not be that patient.

I have read there are significant changes between the '96 and '97 as far as parts. Mine is no where near stock though so I tell you how different they feel.

Great articles that really cover a lot of aspects of my OP. I'm liking what I hear, and really appreciate a scientific approach when talking about power. Too many "talkers" tell you HP numbers without even knowing the diff between, crank HP, RWHP, and whats written on the side of aK&N filter box. Cool Article.
