I see these listed on ebay, what's necessary to make them functional for the car? I'd like to have additional functional spare key...

Wasn't sure if anything special was necessary since it isn't just a house key...

Happy to report that the above key blanks will fit for the earlier gen 1 cars (92,93). I took 2 blanks in to the local locksmith and he cut them both for $ 1.25. He did say that the keys were high quality steel, they cut very clean (did not need to be polished). Fit perfectly in my ignition.

Took mine to the dealer and handed him the blank and my key...
he came back about 5 minutes later, tossed me both keys and said
have a nice weekend and the key worked perfectly, first time...

I got the red one for my red car...

He indicated that the key was around $80 if bought there

so I figured with the money saved I bought one of those cool
key fob covers from MGW...

John, I have another version of the key, if I can find a pic I will send it to you. I just got it cut at the Plymouth dealership. The gentleman first made a key copy of the original for me to test if it works...it did, so he then cut the new blank and works great ever since.

I'd like to see what you got. I see that Albert had posted on this thread, but I had somehow missed it, and ended up buying an exact duplicate of the key I had (and in Albert's pic) on ebay for ~$20 (with shipping).

These are the keys I am talking about. I have the red one and I love it. It is sturdy and made of metal.

I have the yellow. Great product until you drop it. Left a good mark in the sill. It is heavy. Take it to a locksmith, for that price I wouldn't let the Home Depot guy cut it!!!!
