Viperless for the first time in 13 years

As a charter member of this Board and an owner of all 3 Gens, I am for the first time since 1994 Viperless. During that time I have owned C5 and C6 Vettes etc and currently own a Caddy XLR-V, but there is nothing, nothing like a Viper.

I bought my first Viper at 38 and now past 50 it as invigorating as ever. I can recall thinking back in the mid 90s that all the attention and hoopla would die down--it never did. I am not ruling out another Viper, but with multiple homes and kids in college, there is simply no time to fully enjoy snakes.

All I can say after nearly 100,000 miles of Viper ownership is go out and drive these cars and have fun. Remarkably, they have been the most maintenance free cars I have ever owned and some of the best fit/finish. I have met wonderful folks and if the time is right and Dodge keeps making these cars (I have my doubts) I may be in another one before long.

I enjoyed reading your story. I hope the XLR-V runs well for you. I look foward to your future post announcing your next Viper and wondering why you left.

There is a black Ferrari and a black Gallardo in my neighborhood. As much as I admire them, in reality my black 2000 Viper will keep up well enough in looks and performance to make me sleep well not having spent $100k+ more for mostly the status.

Viperdrummer, I 've felt your pain in the past. I too have owned all three generations of vipers and had gone through a period where I was viperless for two years. I also thought that the urge to buy another one would go away but it never did, so I bought me a GTS at the time and since then I have never looked back. The urge to buy another is only going to get worse. I'm sure we will see a post soon telling us that you couldn't resist and had to buy another snake....Good Luck!

Might as well sell the snake now and get fitted for my Caddy...

Thanks for being around long enough to pass the torch to us young'uns. Guys like you kept the Viper going for as long as it did... it could very well have been another DeLorean!

I too am Viperless, or so it seems. I blew my engine last Saturday in my 04 SRT. So, it is in for repairs for a few weeks or so. This is the height of the racing season! What ***** is that about 5 of my nephews and neices are coming to visit me over the next two weeks and they all wanted to see and ride in my Viper! I have a Bentley GT Coupe as well, and it is nice, but it is NO COMPARISON to my Viper!
