Here is the basic text of the official media release for the VCA’s World Championship Drag Racing event. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Dodge and the twelve important co-sponsors for making this possible. Sometime during VOI, whether you are interested in drag racing or not, I hope everyone will stop by and say hello to these sponsors, and tell them how much you appreciate their continuous support of the Viper Nation in general. The list reads like a “Who’s Who” of the Viper world. Not to be forgotten, the staff at Viper Headquarters and J.R. Thompson also played a major role. There are a few cancellations, so if you think you may want to come and run your car afterall, they may be able to fit you in at (800) 998-1110.

If you’re arriving in Nashville in time, then I strongly encourage you to show up as a spectator to see the circus. As most of you know, Bowling Green in the home of the Corvette plant and their national museum. It just so happens that our drag racing is taking place right in the middle of Corvette’s 2002 National Z06 Fest there. They will be doing their autocross that day on other Beech Bend property while we are at the drag strip. Their drag event is the day AFTER ours. What kind of shock are they going to have when they see a virtually uncountable number of some 150-200 Vipers in the middle of their party??!!

For Immediate Release:

(September 13, 2002 - Dallas, TX) The Viper Club of America (“VCA”) is pleased to announce the 2nd Viper World Drag Racing Championships will take place in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on September 25, 2002, at Beech Bend Raceway Park, in conjunction with Dodge’s 7th Viper Owners Invitational to held September 26-30 in Nashville, TN.

A field of approximately 120 Dodge Vipers will compete in five different classes, from Stock to Unlimited. The faster classes will feature the largest collection of 10 second and faster Vipers ever assembled at one time for quarter-mile drag racing competition, with either team or customer cars representing most of the major Viper aftermarket tuners. Modified classes will be loaded with cars featuring turbochargers, superchargers, and extensively modified normally aspirated engines.

Viper Club of America President, Tony Estes, stated, “We really appreciate everything that Dodge does for its owner group. Even beyond assisting us with opportunities to explore the performance of our Vipers at drag strip and road course events, Dodge continually offers us many other new ways of enjoying our ownership experience. We believe this kind of relationship with a manufacturer is the envy of almost every other automobile related club or owner’s association in the world.”

A number of Dodge executives, managers and engineers will also be on hand to support the competitors, and to display and answer questions about the new 2003 Viper SRT-10 convertible, which will commence delivery to loyal prior owners soon after the events in Bowling Green and Nashville. Pamela Niekamp, Viper and Neon Brand Manager, Dodge Marketing, said “Viper owners are more passionate about their cars than any other group of vehicle owners. The members of the Viper Club of America serve a critical role as ambassadors for the Dodge brand and for DaimlerChrysler. This event is just one more example of their enthusiasm and loyalty, and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Twelve members of the Viper aftermarket parts and service industry have also stepped up as co-sponsors of the drag racing event. Their participation has enabled the entrants to compete for FREE, and take home beautiful awards and collectible mementos in addition to the memories. Roy Terpstra, owner of TNT Motorsports, the sponsor also providing the luxury bus serving as VCA and media hospitality headquarters for the event, added, “In addition to earning our living by developing modifications for the Viper, our company and staff enjoy coming out to compete just as much as anyone else. I’m sure I speak for all of the other co-sponsors when I say that whenever Dodge or the Viper Club offers us a stage, we want to come support them and show off our products.”
