Over the years these events became bigger and better, with budgets into the millions (plural) for a single event. Ever rented a NASCAR superspeedway for a full weekend and then tossed in an NHRA drag strip - the only four lane paved strip in the US?

Throw in goody bags (average of about $100 per attendee), banners, centerpieces, and about $400 worth of food and drink per person. Add an autocross or two, hire 20 professional instructors, get signage, registration packets, several luxury buses, and then enough staff to cover it all. Oh yeah, and rent an expensive and popular facility on a Friday night like the Olympic Oval. None of this is cheap.

Yet you can enjoy it all for under $800 per person...

Chris I'm not disputing all those costs but for example you said that the goodie bags cost about $100 each, well I can't speak for all couple but my wife and I don't need two, so right off the bat there is a $100 savings for couples.

So now we are down to talking about $100.

My Wife wants hers so.....It would be too confusing to offer an alacarte menu for VOI

The goodie bag is just one area of potential savings which is roughly a 15% savings. I would bet you could save another couple hundred on a "non-driving guest"option for the track part like the SRT Track Experience totally roughly 45% reduction for non driving guests that don't need a second goodie bag.

Plus kids can't drive, don't need a goody bag, and eat chicken nuggets and don't drink alcohol. They would be well under a 50% cost savings

Sorry, but VOI's are worth every penny in events, meals, memorebilia and memories.

Next one, we could just do a *** luck in a cornfield in Nebraska and bring our sleeping bags.

No offense to Nebraska intended.

I have run many conventions over the years. The total cost of the event for the VCA is X amount no matter how you slice it. So if you start offering discounts for non-driving spouses or kids, the cost for the actual attendees or drivers will have to go up and it will complicate matters immensely trying to keep track of who paid for what. This will in turn create angry patrons who are upset they are being excluded from events.

The simpler the price structure the less problems you have.

Hey...How about a senior discount : >). We guys rarely sleep, do not eat much, drive pretty slow, and do not cause security problems. Do you think you could change the dinner banquet to an early bird event, and offer discounts?

Kidding of course. Really looking forward to this event.

I understand the points being made on having a more flexible pricing structure. Cutting out the goodie bag, to save money, for guests who don't want them sounds good. But those guests who do want them will be upset. Looking at the schedule for VOI, the only non-track related activities are the daily breakfasts, lunches and dinner. There's a cruise too and shopping and some other surprises. But there's a LOT of track time scheduled. Having 2 kids of my own, I'd love to take them to VOI but they will be bored out of their mind while daddy is driving on two tracks and all of the other activities that will most likely keep my in Viper for most of the VOI. Can't take both of them on a cruise as I can only fit one in the Viper. Lunches/Dinner may OK for them but not sure if VOI is really setup for an 8 and 10 year old. Certainly, they'll want to shop but I don't see VOI as a family vacation destination. But that's me. Agree we should consider various pricing options mentioned for future VOIs. There's no doubt that folks will get more than their moneys' worth at this VOI. This may be the biggest VOI yet. :headbang:

I've read most of the replies on this thread and although I think it is good to suggest improvements for future VOIs I think the people that are critisizing the cost should maybe look at it this way:

I too fall into the category of "budget viper" owner. It wasn't easy for me to purchase a Viper and the cost of VOI isn't insignificant to me. We all have to remember that most of us will sit here argue about the cost and how to get there and such and then just cut a check and go. At the same time another group of people, mostly volunteers, are working their buts off right now trying to make an unforgettable experience for the rest of us. So I offer this view; I use to be just like a lot of the guys on here complaining about the cost and then saying "it's too much money, maybe I'll go next time". Well this past year my supervisor and good friend was diagnosed with brain cancer, went into surgery with an optimistic outcome but he never recovered and passed away just after New Years. He was 50 years old and blind sided by this. During this time his wife was diagnosed with colon cancer was undergoing treatments as her husband passed away. Before he went into surgery he thought he would be out of work for a few weeks but instead he was checked out of life. Do you think postponing a trip that he would have enjoyed because it was expensive was worth it now?

My point: there are different levels of "afford". If going to VOI means you can't pay your other bills, food, take care of your kids than you can't go. If it is merely a larger than expected expense that may mean a few months of not eating filet, is it worth skipping? You never know what life has a head of you, don't let a few extra $$ postpone your life.

If cars and the Viper are a passion of yours, make VOI happen, if you are comparing the cost of VOI to going to Disney world than tell Mickey I said hi because you not that big of a car enthusiast.

All of these points that are being made are excellent. I have never been to any of the VOI meets but the wife and I are coming this year for sure. Hauling the trailer down with the whole family, kids are going to grammas in Raleigh, and we are coming to enjoy ourselves and race for 3 days. I am a big supporter of what others said about enjoying life. Gotta live everyday like its your last, one of these days you're gonna be right.

Well I'm not really that concerned about pricing anymore. I just decided that I will go to VOI myself.

Think this is a great option. If your guest or kids do not wish to pay for, and attend the VOI activities, they can still find lots of other things to do in Charlotte. No need to pay the VOI registration for them.

But remember, the first one that tries to sneak them into a breakfast, of just to stop and watch the Vipers at the track "for just a minute" will screw things up for everybody.

No taking from the VOI buffet, and sneaking food up to them in their rooms, no just grabbing a couple extra cold waters for their day trips, no riding along on the Viper senic tours, no getting maps from the registration, no sneeking into the banquet halls to just get a peak at the new Viper, or grabbing a glass of wine at the foyer. No stopping to chat with SRT engineers or getting pictures with Ralph in the lobby. No riding on the VOI busses to special evening events.

No wandering around the Memorabilia displays to check out t-shirts, jewelry, paintings, or taking any of the free stuff given to attendees.

No taking your non paying kid for a ride to the track to see Dad take a few laps, no sneaking into the 4 lane drag strip to watch the Vipers thunder down the only track of it's kind in the US.

What should the punishment be for someone that pays for only themselves, but tries to sneak in some freebies? And no whinning when you get caught.

LOL, I guess your post was directed at me. I have integrity and would never try to sneak anyone into the events, buffets, or any other VCA activity. I could careless about free food or water for my guest. She's not really into the car that much, but we enjoy doing things together. If she was a Viperholic then I would be buying another registration. I guess next you're gonna tell me she can't stay in my hotel room or ride in my Viper in the caravan up to Charlotte.

Last few VOI's I attended were not really vacations. Up early, late nights, on the go all day long. I had to take the next week off to recouperate.

Ok ,not sure what to do, have been patiently waiting but may have missed something? Is there a designated hotel/hotels assigned for this event, or should I go ahead and book hotel rooms in Charlotte ,as I have family from overseas coming for this event and don't wan't to be left out in the cold!
