I finally have my Corsa Track system completely installed (with 3" RT h/f cats). I have 3" Vortex cones just in front of the mufflers. The Corsa track sounded good (not too loud) on the highway, but very loud/harsh upon start-up. The Vortex cones have taken some of the harshness away in all conditions. (My former B&B system was louder than the Corsa with cones, but quieter than the Corsa w/o cones). I like the sound -- it's different (it burbles kinda like a Harley) -- but -- it might just be my brain, but it seems like there's also been some HP loss. I'll probably leave the cones in ... but there's the report on Vortex cones.

Thanks....

We stock and have sold quite a few to track rats looking to qualify at Laguna-Seca...a QUIET track. They can then be removed easily! And on the rare occasion that a metal-hi-flow cat user loves the coolness, but wishes they had been just a BIT quieter, the cones are the EZ fix solution.

Does anyone have before & after dyno numbers with these Vortex cones?

I did a before and after dyno. lost 2 hp and gained 8 tq.

Not enough to notice, and probably not outside the error bars of a dyno test.

Where did you have them located? in front of the cats? or in front of the mufflers?

I wonder if it's just the lower sound that is making me think I have lost power ...

... I'm also thinking about cutting the tips of the cones to create a slightly larger hole for better flow ...

In front of the mufflers.

I wouldn't cut them up. I don't believe that they have caused you to lose power.

Power loss was slight. About 5 hp for me. I had them mounted per instructions, right at the collector. In front of the mufflers in the sill seems to work best. I now have two in my GTS and they are way back behind the mufflers. They still work pretty well there.

You are probably correct in your comment above. Quieter seems like less power, but isn't.

I am having local Vipertech install my Vortex cones next week... He said he had once removed a pair that was secured by some screws or bolts... Is this the correct way to install these or should they be welded into place?

I also assume they should be installed between the collectors and the primary cats?

They come with screws, but I think most folks get them tack-welded inside the pipe. They can also be installed before the muffler (mine are - they can go into collectors when there are no cats, but I wouldn't want to mess up the O2 readings if there are cats).

Let us know if it feels like you lose power after they are in (I'm still thinking about taking mine out).

How did it affect the sound once installed? Since removing the secondary cats it became much louder, especially at start-up... I was hoping it would tone down the burst of sound that happens when initially turning on car and ultimately provide a lower tone...

Huh? "Squeeze me?"? how do you think this could happen? do not worry, a plain steel metal mesh will not affect the O2 ratio in the exhaust gases.

Sorry, too tired to explain how a catalitic converter works... Google it.

Probably not, unless they were put in right next to where the 02 sensor is located (the 02 sensors are intended for a flow of exhaust gas, not a 'hot spot' inside the pipe of red hot gas, and the cones will get red hot) ...

Sound wise, the loudness is still there at start-up, but much better -- I'm still more concerned about my losing HP at higher rpms (it just doesn't feel as quick) ... I would take them out if I could prove I lost 20hp -- I'll like the lower sound if I only lost 5hp, but I don't want to give up 20hp.
