I think we have diagnosed that I have a bad water pump. I did a search and found many of the same symptoms I have. I also see where many have replaced the water pump, and the problem is solved.
My question is are the replacement pumps "better" and failure is not an issue?; or are there replacement pumps that are considered "fail proof" ?(if you know what I mean), not necessarily from Dodge.
Thanks,
Later,

I'm pretty sure that's a GenII pump, and I bet his '96 has a GenI engine.

Yes that is a GENII pump.
GENI W/pump #5245465 MSRP $260.00 at the moment they are on back order with DC, but I have one in stock [less 20% VCA].
I am open Monday the 3rd.

Last experience with an aftermarket water pump. Put it in for a customer,(his pump) and it lasted 200 miles, and started leaking. The impeller came loose on his original pump at a track day.

Go with OEM.
