Last night went to E-town. Weather certainly wasn't favorable, extreme heat but regardless. Had severe wheel hop shifting from 1st to 2nd AND 2nd to 3rd. HAd to lose at least a full second. Also traction was horrendous. Won't even tell what my 60' were. Question is, My car is stock. What changes do I have to make to eliminate or greatly reduce the wheel hop. Thanks

drive it more

Thanks for the advice. However, my old Z06 didn't have any wheel hop and was producing just about the same rwhp. This is my first Viper and I understand it is common. And since I have been drag racing for 3 decades I don't think it is my technique.
Maybe switching to non run-flats. Suspension mods. Would like to here from people who have had the same issues and what they did, if anything to help the situation.

Evan Smith drove my 08 there last week in a private test session and noticed the identical track conditions that you experienced in running high 11.4s at 127 with a 60 foot time of 2.00.(He usually pops a 1.75 no problem on Pilots ).I can only guess that no body has really gone over the track since their major event that was there 2 weeks ago.E-Town can be tricky go 10 times and 5 of which there is so much VHT put down that it actually pulls your shoes off .The other 5 its like you were driving on ice.

PS Wendesday night test and tune in the middle of the summer can be a nightmare over there.Track hardly prepped at all,so crowded that alot of times you get all of 3 runs for the night (especially if someone breaks and the track gets wet )

E-Town and Atco, even Cecil County, seem to be hit or miss when it comes to hooking up.Sometimes they are like glue, and sometimes you spin all the way down the track.:dunno:

Last time I went to Atco I managed a few 1.8x 60's, but spun in 2nd and 3rd so much I had to backpeddle each gear, and still ran 11.85 @ 119

I went to Cecil about two months ago and could only manage a 1.95 60'. 2nd gear spun about 5-10', while 3rd and 4th hooked (No powershifting). Still only ran a best of 12.001, but my MPH was much better at 124.65.

You would think the extra ~5mph at Cecil would've easily got me an 11 second run (even though my 60' was slower), but no luck that day.

I don't understand why, but it still beats the hell out of working.:D

Hey Joe, Nick mentioned you got a new ride. Hope all is well. Venom, NY VCA Member (couldn't tell what name to use) In that situation, you might try lowering the tire pressures significantly but generally speaking you can't do much if the track isn't prepped.

Hey Phil,
I lowered the rear to 25psi (hot obviously). The rear seemed real loose. I only had 2 runs, but the car even kicked out the rear on the 2-3 shift on my second run. To sit in the lanes for hours just to get two runs. That is why I love the track rentals, worth every penny. FWIW, my temp gauge read 220+ on each run...that sure didn't help.

You're absolutely right about track rentals. Now that's fun! I haven't dragged in quite some time. I'm doing the road course thing as much as I can (which unfortunately isn't much). I would however be interested in participating if anyone wants to step up and organize a Viper/anything else track rental (we'll make sure to throw in enough for them to prep the track).

Since I don't have an SRT, I rarely come to this forum so if someone does organize an event, I'd greatly appreciate it if they'd post it on t he gen i &II forum as well.

Joe, I just got mine back from Nick after a month or so and it'll need to go back again. I was supposed to be at Pocono this weekend with NASA but the car isn't up to the task. It would be nice to get together some time. Take care. Phil

Phil

There are 2 track rentals this fall. Some of the AMG guys organized it and I usually run my 63. If we can get some Viper guys I would ditch the 63 and bring the Snake. One is at Atco and the other at MIR.

Anything pretty much during the week ***** at Englishtown except on a Friday night or a Saturday morning but then again you always have to pay attention to the weather. A day like today, everyones times should be SLOW. I'm holding out on a few smaller events in the coming month to go back in September, hoping it'll be a little cooler.

Exactly.I know the magazine guys usally have track rentals every few weeks(Evan would love to publish a 10 second pass on a totally stock -tires included car ) thru late Oct but honestly to me at least its not worth beating the hell out of a new car to have an ET that is inhibited by the weather.I would rather wait untill the end of September besides the Viper will be broken in by then,

Phil Nick and i spoke- my blood boils when i hear about the kind of crap you are going thru (ironically i went thru your identical situation 15 years ago with Greg Carrol ).Your a true gentleman and are much more kind and tactful than i would ever be by not going public on this forum. Please call me (732)977-7244 (Years ago the mag guys were testing Dan Blacks car when something happened that i think you should really know about) since it may help you).Take care Joe.
