Well…. I’ve put together a track day / get together in Calgary. If you’ve never been to Race City this just might be your last chance as the track is scheduled to close at the end of the season.
Our on track time will be Monday, June 22, 5:00 to 9:00pm.
I wanted a date that is more than just a track day so I’ve added some incentives for people from out of town to attend.
Here’s the plan:
On Sunday June 21 we’ll meet early to go on a group drive. The ‘standard drive' is to go into the mountains looking for twisty roads – and there are a few, but they’re always busy with tourists so instead we’ll be heading east from Calgary. Yessir, we’ll be going to the beautiful badlands! We’ll take a trip through rural Alberta passing through, Rosebud and Drumheller before loading onto the historic Bleriot Ferry (commissioned in 1913) to carry us across the Red Deer River. Later we’ll make it to the world famous Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington. It’s ridiculous, a major laugh and yet, unforgettable. I’d describe it as ‘campy tourist’ at its best (or worst!). We’ll have lunch and dinner on the road.
On Monday morning we’ll meet at local speed merchant Davenport Motorsports for some dyno runs. We have room for 4 cars so if you want to dyno your car be sure to let me know ASAP! We’ll wrap things up in time to freshen up before heading to Race City for our track time at 5:00pm – the highlight of the weekend.
We’ll be joining an existing Davenport track night so there’s no minimum number of cars required and it’s the best way to keep the cost as low as possible. We’ll have 2 run groups so we can accommodate experienced track rats as well as first timers. Instruction is available for everyone and will be mandatory for those with little or no track experience. We’ll be with other types of cars like Corvette’s and Chargers - so there will be a nice mix. For those with instructors we’ll be doing classroom between sessions.
After the track we’ll head out to a local pub for some nacho’s.
There will be no group cost for the drive portion of the trip – everyone pays their own way. If you want to dyno your car the price is $150 each plus GST. We’ll do ‘baseline dyno runs’. Each car will get two pulls with the wideband hooked up and a print out with the HP/Torque and the air/fuel ratio. This should be fun! We’ll have time for 4 cars… plus mine!
The track portion of the event will cost $325 ($300 without instructor – for track veterans).
Registration deadline is June 8th.
Some FAQ’s.
-Verts are OK.
-Factory seat belts are OK.
-Helmet required – motorcycle helmets are OK. If you don’t have a helmet I may be able to locate one for you.
-I can arrange for payment by Visa or cheque. All payment goes to Davenport Motorsports.
-You’ll need to sign a waiver at the track.
-Your insurance may, or may not cover you if you crash but crashes are extremely rare. You will, however, have the opportunity to crash. The instructors I use are first class and can usually spot problems before they occur.
-You can bring a passenger but your instructor may be riding with you for most of the night.
-We will not tech. your car – it’s your responsibility to bring a track worthy car. A full tank of fuel, good brake pads, fresh brake fluid and tires in good condition, tire pressures set, etc.
-Bring a happy attitude (especially for the Gopher Hole Museum!) and have a great time!
I can be contacted at [email protected] or 403-862-7942.
I hope ya’ll can make it.
