Like the car's teeth are chattering in general, but I have to admit I've never heard a Viper rattle before.

Know that thing when you push the gas pedal down? it sounds like that... :)

think school bus going up-hill sounding like a bunch of marbles.

if you are worried about it, put in a few gallons of 100 octane and that should clear it right up. or we can take some timing back out...

Could it sound like sand in the front fenders? Of course there is no sand on the road. It just sounds like that when I mash the gas.

random ticking, sometimes not very audible. Sounds like tiny rocks coming up and hitting the firewall in front of your legs.

JD, Maybe we should take some timing out. It is a high pitch, tinny, sandy sound????

Dimitrios,

Does what I describe sound like what you were experiencing?

A wideband A/F monitor would be helpful especially with the S/C.I'm using a Wideband Commander and there are others. It provides some peace of mind and is a must for tweaking the VEC2. Rick

When I hammer the gas on the freeway, I hear some chattering noise. Sounds like detonation, but feels like it's coming from behind the car. Could it be something else? I only use premium gas.

Joe Dell's suggestion of running some 100 octane would be perfect in your situation. Run the tank down to almost empty and throw in 3-4 gallons of 100. If the noise goes away in the same conditions that is a real good indicator it was detonating. If not time to look for another cause.

When I had detonation it sounded like a tiny vibration noise from under the hood.

Look at your plugs. Detonation can show up as tiny little round specs on your plugs.

Detonations sounds like small gravels itting the front wheel wells....like driving on a freshly paved road. Rich, you DO
NOT want your motor doing that....the pistons will easily break.

Sounds like you are describing the front air dam suction not detonation.

erc racing fuels in San Lorenzo. Buy by the drum if you like. Theres a few stations like the 76 in san jose off of almaden that sell 100. You're NA I think, so you shouldn't need it.

Yes it is like sand hitting the fender.
Retard your ignition a couple degres (2-3).
