What oil filter to use?

I thought everyone was using Mopar. That's all I ever used. The same one fits my Viper and my Ram Hemi. Get them from Chuck by the case, how can I go wrong ???

I use Mopar. Unless I see some hard unbiased evidence to the contrary, I am not switching.

Mobil 1.On a $10,000 engine why would you worry about spending an extra $5 on the filter when your running expensive oil and dumping it early for peace of mind if not safety. GTS Bruce

I use Mopar too b/c I bought several at once. When theyre used up (I have 1 or 2 left), I may go with Wix. I've heard Mopar oil filters have been known to "fail", but I dont have any 1st hand knowledge of this

That's just silly. Why would you take all the time to take apart a filter and just use single ply. USE DOUBLE PLY if you go this route!

I haven't bought a filter in 8 years. I reuse the one that came with the car. I modified it so I can take it apart and stuff the guts with a roll of toilet paper. Single ply fits nicely.

I have always used NAPA gold (WIX premium).

I've been poking around trying to find a site that used to be on line, it was great. A fellow cut apart every oil filter he could find, took pictures of the guts, measured the surface area of the media, identified the different types of media, showed all the different bypass valves, even measured the can metal thickness and discussed the types of clinches and seams used. If I find it, I'll let you know....

I found that my finger pokes through the single ply when changing the roll.

Besides that, Mr. Whipple recommends Charmin and he should know since he makes superchargers.

after reading this thread I may start using the WIX (or NAPA gold) filters...although I don't see anything wrong with the Mobil 1 filters and they do have a synthetic element that the WIX doesn't...

I do recall having a leak from a Mobil 1 filter at the base about a year ago, just like is described in the study, but its only happened once...

I've always used Napa Gold on all my vehicles, but mopar or napa gold would be fine.

I'm confused with GR8 ASP's comment about Amsoil. I have used Amsoil in 6 cars since around 1996. They have great technical support over the internet. The product arrives at my work. All different grades and filters arrive at wholesale prices without me having to go to 2-3 Auto shops and find out they don't have what I want or are out of it that day. I don't know if Amsoil is better than Mobil one, but it sure has been convenient for me all these years, and I order in gallon containers. Any feedback from GR8 ASP on what he meant by Amsoil propaganda would interest me. Am I missing something here?

It was meant in jest at a specific individual here who tends to "market" Amsoil in all of these types of threads.

Never bought it and probably never will. But what do I know.
