What's involved in changing to a 3:33 gear?

I have a client who does Transmissions and Differential/Axle work and gives me a $600 / year in-store credit.

Should I trust a regular shop to do this (is it a pretty straight forward procedure?)

What parts should I be looking for to do a quality job?

How many hours labor would be average?

Our diff looks pretty standard although it uses larger parts and rear axle shafts. If you trust the guy go for it. I haven't heard of any special Viper shop in Van. The owner of Willowbrook Dodge has a few Vipers and must have a tech at his Dealership. He owns a Venom 650R so his Viper interest is more than casual. Join the VCA and you can post on the regional forums. You'd also recieve our (approx) monthly newsletter for Western cda that I email to members. Aside form normal gear set-up procedures, the only thing I can remember being noted here is the proper torque of the pinion shaft yoke nut. Don't want that baby coming un-done.

Good choice on the gear number too. I'm about 2 shakes from doing 3.73's but with my 20's on the rear that's a net 3.45 ratio. I've heard a few say that 3.33 is the perfect "all around" gear. My first hand opinion to follow soon...

I am considering 3.55's. 3.08 to 3.33 on my stock 17's just did not seem to warrant the change.

A plug in box is available, or just carry the proverbial calculator in your brain converter.

Specmo?? used to make a converter. I have one on my car but bought it 10 years ago. I think they are in MI and used to be on the vendors list. You need to have have the speedo right or the ECM thinks you are driving at a different speed which effects engine management.

That's from that machining site right? Do yourself a favor, call that place and tell them what you plan on doing, ask questions and write down the technical information they give you. Then call JonB and/or Tator and ask the same before you buy, from anyone. Taylor Race Engineering is another site sponsor here with parts and information that will help. It's worth giving them a call as well. FYI.

At a minimum, you should drill and wire the ring gear bolts. in addition, most gear sets come with undersized ring gear bolts, the fix is to drill and retap for the next size larger bolt. Make sure the set is a Dana Super 44, not, the more common 44 gear set with the smaller pinion gear.

Hahaha good one. But I don't think that has to do with engine tuning/management.

I wanted the skip shift to malfunction so badly that I posted a thread asking what size of resistor to use and plugged that into the skipshift connector after unplugging the solenoid. No skip shift feature in my car anymore - thanks to the VCA electronics gurus!

We do have a program that locks out reverse with any forward motion though. I'd hate to have my reverse locked out when I was stopped because of a malfunction or the speed sensor disconected.
