Hey guys, I installed Pioneed Avic BT90 months ago and now I am thinking of adding rear view camera to this unit. I was wondering if anyone here have ran the wires from the rear of the car to the head unit in a convertible? How hard was it? Did you have to drill any holes? What kind of rear view camera did you use?

Thanks.

I have the Pioneer AvicN4. No big issues runing wires. I believe we drilled to get into the trunk and that was it, that's where I built my amp rack. We ran the wires into the trunk lid and placed the little camera between the lights above the license plate. Had to drill a hole there as well.

Dude, it's a viper. Are you serious? We go forward!.... I'd get rid of the rear view mirror if I could get away with it.

I have one installed, NO holes have to be drilled, but it does involve a little extra work.

That's a great idea ... what better way to get a great look at all the cars you pass. :)

I drilled one 1/4 inch hole in the little wall between the rear door opening and the roof well. I ran the wire to the camera between the body and the license plate light, the gasket there seals up against the wire perfectly.

Funny, when you look at the vehicles in my sig, only the Viper I find seeing out back difficult enough to use a camera......... Well that and it has expensive plastic bumpers.:D

Yeah if you have a coupe I think you can get away without drilling any holes. For the vert I am afraid I will not be able to get away withoug drilling a hole...

Costco sells one for about $70 that transmits a radio signal to the video receiver. It mounts on the rear license plate. I put one on my Ram truck to watch the trailer hitch when I'm backing up to connect the trailer. Spot on every time.

Hm, I was looking at costco.com and could not find it.
Also, on AV forum I was told that the costco wireless camera did not work well, producing too much snow effect. Do you get the same issue?

I replaced the trunk key hole with a camera in my coupe. I can easily take it back to stock. Only draw back to it is I don't have a key hole anymore.

Are you guys for real. You are backing up a Viper not a motor coach. Viper comes with 3 monitors located on the Left, right, and center. They have the best resolution you can possibly get. :2tu:

WLW - It works very good. Yes it is a little grainy but that has little impact. Antennae location is important. In the truck, I ran it up the inside of the tail gate so that there is no metal between it and the receiver. In a Viper that should not be a problem.

Costco does not always have it. I have seen one at Wally World now for about $90. Don't know if it is hard wired or radio signal.
