The market is flat right now, yes. However, the selling technique they are using is going to generate little or no interest.
First, the starting bid is way too high. You have to put it in low to get the *** stirring.
Second, the 'Buy it now' price kills the auction. I never set a Buy it now, just set a reserve to keep the auction interest alive. A real buyer will find a way to contact you with an offer if he really wants to 'buy it now'
Just my .02 cents, I've had several successful high ticket items sell on ebay, with very active bidding, including a '94 Lightning.
Blu, I have to respectfully disagree on both points...
The starting bid, is the starting bid.. Doesnt matter if its 1 cent or $55,995.... Anyone seriously "in the market" for a Viper GTS, will contact the seller about this car, if the starting bid is within, what they would be willing to pay.... There is no *** stirring needed.. No one browsing Ebay, decides, I might buy a Viper Today.. Someone browsing Ebay is either a serious buyer, looking for a Viper. Or, a time waster/bottom feeder(about 90% of Ebay'rs), that doesnt have the resources and/or desire to buy a Viper, just wants to send you a few emails... If a phone number is listed, a SERIOUS buyer will call. Ive sold a dozen cars on Ebay. This has always been the case..
The car will not sell through the auction process. It will sell when the serious buyer, calls you..
The buy it now price is a MUST....... Why?? It gives "the market" an "indication" of what you would like to get for the car.. If I were to see this car w/o a buy it now price. I would assume a $63k reserve on it, and most likely scroll right by.. The "buy it now" price lets everyone know where you stand, as far as "asking" price.. Always set the "buy it now" a slight bit higher, than you'd be willing to take..
Bottom line, Ebay is just an advertising tool. Just like the classifieds.. The serious buyer, will NOT go through the actual, auction process..
