Will new coupe hurt our values?

I can't imagine there will be much impact, but if anything it may be a push up.

The color issue on GTS's is a funny one. Someone further up the post was bragging about being 1 of 37 for the Bumblebee in 2002. But they made 108 of the same color combo in 2001 which is an identical car. I was looking at the car he bought from Woodhouse and Bill kept repeating that, "1 of 37". No, 1 of 145. If you want to go that route only 11 red with striped cars were made in 1998. ACR's don't seem to a positive either as far as resale.

The real issue is mileage and condition as far as I am concerned. The B/W market is popping right now though.

IMHO - i think the 2002 RT/10 & GTS will hold the most value due to it being
the last year of the genII's plus it was the most perfected viper in the original
body style. yes the B/W are hot right now but patience if you want one will be
prove to be worth it. the first year viper will also prove to be a good buy if
you can find one with very low mile's. there are a few cars made since the beginning that will also hold their value or go up, to name a few - rt/10 B/W,
one year color's (graphite 2002)like mine :D of course, raffle cars 1 of 1.
my best advice would be to be selective. as for the question will the new coupe hurt
the value of the GTS, ONLY IF YOU HAVE A COMMON ONE.

MILE'S AND CONDITION WILL ALWAYS BE THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR ALONG WITH SUPPLY
AND DEMAND. :2tu:

if i have the choice between a new coupe or any GTS out there -

THE NEW COUPE WOULD WIN HANDS DOWN :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Same arguments as made 4 years ago with the SRT vs RT/10 prices. And yes it DID make an impact. The primary cause was probably the increased supply due to RT/10 owners selling in order to buy an SRT. Demand did not shift dramatically, but of course will over time.

The new coupe will be a bastage child once the Z06 comes out in force. It's the NEXT, next generation Viper that will affect us Gen I and II owners. Hopefully, DC is already smelling the coffee and has engineers at work. The current SRT will be like that first year of the Z06, before they bumped the HP. Who'd buy that?

I bought my 2000 GTS ACR 1 year ago for $60,000 (it was in mint condition). Since then I have spent approximately $25,000 in mods. Will I ever get it back? I DON'T CARE!!!!
I have had a number of sports cars but this was my first Viper and I intend to keep this car for a very long time as I love the car. It is one of 35 in Steel Gray with no strip. It is unique and puts a smile on my face.

As many of you are a testament to, supply for all other Vipers will be dictated by how many of you sell in order to buy a new Coupe. You folks are loyal, repeat customers going by some of your signatures and having a new type of Viper means you guys are thinking about it. Those of you who've had multiple Vipers have the resources to buy a new one because it's the new one on the block. Sure, you will get some new buyers who are looking at the premium sports car market and are thinking of getting something different but there really aren't that many people who will drop that kind of coin on a new vehicle unless they are serious about recreational racing or want to buy and store it.

Me, the casual used Viper "wanna be" buyer would not think twice about it. In fact, I'm waiting for some of you to sell your old one to get the new Viper Coupe, creating a small influx of used Vipers for the picking. Naturally, with the extra supply comes a drop in price to market.

IMHO, it will make a difference but it will be minute and those "extra" Vipers will be snapped up in no time. The length of time it takes to sell a Viper is directly proportional to the price. The longer it takes, the lower the price goes. After all, there really aren't that many for the throngs of people who admire them anyway, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. These aren't mass-produced Neons.

Than again, what do I know?

After further review, I agree with an earlier post, that the new coupe could re-ignite interest in the GTS (not that the interest ever died), and could actually pull more people into that market. How lucky are we to have so many options of incredible cars in this country!

The only thing that would drop the value on older Vipers is if DC decided to drop the new car prices to $50-60k and we know that will never happen.

What is wrong with you people? No one is talking about the Viper being an investment, where you would actually expect a return on your purchase, or even breaking even on what you spent. The topic is whether or not the upcoming availability of a Viper coupe will drop the values of our Gen I and Gen II cars. Totally different, and legitimate, question. So if you can FOCUS, and not let your emotions cloud your judgement to the point where even the question becomes murky, maybe we can have an intelligent discussion.
Thanks, rant over.

everything drops in value over the years , it falls down to what someone is willing to pay for your car , if by the books it's worth 45k and you want 60k well maybe you will own it for the rest of your live , its that simple.
all car sales are down because of the economy and growing gas prices .
i'm in the car business and it gets harder and harder to sell cars, people want bang for the buck, they want that awsome deal you cant even find to resell ,

then theres" ebay "and the internet if you have a car at 45k and there's 20 other's same models ,same shape, about the same average miles , at 35k which one you think people are going to buy the 35k one , people shop around alot now days before making there purchase.

there's a 2001 red viper at viperalley with 3k miles for 45k
everyone that see's that deal will expect to pay around the same , or wait for a similar deal to come along

i wont mention this dealers name but there's a dealer buying cars from the VCA classifieds , and trying to sell them back in the vca classifieds for as much as $10,000 profit guess what happens, they have the same vipers for the past year and unless they drop there prices near what they paid for them, they will probably eat all of them, once the new coupe is release..
vipers are very special cars and unique , but it falls down to what someone is willing to pay for it , just like any other car ...

That's funny.... My 1998 GTS is worth more now (fact not opinion) than it was in 2004. Worth more now than in 2003 as well. The past two years I have seen APPRECIATION in value, not depreciation. I'm not sure this will continue (as I don't have a crystal ball), but to say a '96-'98 GTS has depreciated every year sinced produced is flat out wrong.

And to say the gas prices have a significant effect on Viper sales is ludicrous. Never has, never will. These car are in an entirely different market segment than an SUV or large family car.

I think he's trying to convince us the price will drop so people will lower their prices. Note "sold Z-o6", are we looking for a good deal? I remember last January someone commenting that an '01 or '02 mint ACR in yellow with 70 miles on it, that sold for 56K was a rip off....please.

If, and that's a big IF, these are real ads, there are major issues with these cars. At least with the '98. My buddy sold his '98 Silver GTS for $45K with 36,000 miles. It sold in under a month on Autotrader, and he had mucho interest at that price. It's so easy to do a search on Autotrader (or whatever) and list cars with the lowest price. But when you call these people, the numbers are not valid or the car is a salvage/'R' Title, etc... If you know I am wrong, please list the number/location to the 98GTS with 22K miles for $32,000. I will leave work and purchase the car TODAY if there are no issues. I'm not joking...
