I'm about to get 01 or 01 GTS or ACR and don't want to get killed on the deal. Thanks.
Will the price of GTS go down when 03 it out?

If any is affected, Certainly the ROADSTER would likley be first.
Crystal-balling says that the voluptuous nature of the G1-G2 will keep it maintaining a relatively high percentage of MSRP.
When the 1997 G2 RT/10 came out, it did not have an immediate and direct affect on the G1 RT/10, despite SIGNIFICANT HP and comfort differences.
But all Vipers have steadly depreciated over time. They just depreciate slower than all but one other make: Ferrari !

Obviously no one really knows, and what actually happens will be driven by demand for the Gen II cars once Gen III arrives. What is working in your favor is that you are looking at some form of GTS. Here are some observations:
(1) The GTS will not be produced again until 2005 at the very earliest (other than the Competition Coupe, which isn't a street car and is ultra-low-production, so is not germane to this discussion). Therefore, anyone wanting a coupe, which includes most everyone who wants to road race the car, those who like the coupe styling better, those who don't want the RT due to the climate they live in, etc., will have to buy a Gen II car. This should cause some increase in demand for Gen II's and therefore cause them not to depreciate as rapidly as they might otherwise.
(2) Based on polls I've seen around here, people who prefer Gen III styling are in the minority. Therefore, people looking for a Viper for styling will tend to gravitate more towards a used Gen II. This should help keep demand up.
(3) From my highly biased perspective, the Gen II GTS is one of the most beautiful automotive designs ever, especially the blue with white stripes and yellow (oh, did I mention this is biased
)? Surely there are others out there who think like me who would want to buy your car!
All that being said, if you slap a nitrous kit on the car, and drive the crap out of it on the track every weekend, or put 50K miles on it, you will lose a lot of value, GTS or not!

What I want to know is if the cult following of children will transfer to the Gen3 or stay with the Gen1/2?
Let's face it, if they stay with the old one, there could be incredible demand for the car in 10-15 years.

Considering that the new Gen III car will probably sell near $80,000, a Gen II GTS for somehwere in the $50s will be a bargain.

Hmmmm, do you think the Vette analogy extends to styling? E.g., C4 was a classic and C5 was blander? I don't agree in the case of the Vette. I think the C4 and C5 are equally attractive, though neither is as outrageous as the Gen I/II Viper.
Also, time will tell, but I don't think the SRT will be the same quantum leap over the Gen II cars that the C5 was over the C4 from a performance/comfort/quality perspective. But we shall see! In fact, I hope the SRT does prove to be such an improvement over the Gen II (it's just that I can't imagine it will be).
