Well, THANKS to Chris Marshall at Viper Parts of America, our right and left window regulators to arrived today (FAST SERVICE). While only one Viper is "squeaking", I MUST have all possible Viper parts ON HAND when Tom Sessions returns to Indy this Spring for another "Special Viper Service Session...#6" !!

Thanks, again Chris and VPA !!

read this hollywood none, i mean one
Thanks Chelseasnake......no surprise here as suspected my regulator is probably done. No cracking or anything like that but I am so tired of the window hitting the roof so I just leave the window down a 1/2 inch and close the door.

Garron I was wondering if the door panel trim breaking necessitated a complete door panel replacement?

Yes and no.

Chrysler only sells the top trim as a complete door panel. Normally we can find the top trim that breaks used. But expect to pay $250 - $300 for it.

add me to the list. My wife went to shut the door on my 3000 mile 08' this weekend (thankfully not hard) and the glass actually hit the roof. Didnt leave a mark. I'm guessing the smart glass feature got stuck in the "full up" postion or something. Its shutting ok now.

Once I went to roll the window up and down, it made a screech noise, and sounded almost as if it was off track. I have a $0 Ded., max care warranty, but not sure if there is a trustworthy dealer near me. not to mention the part showing backordered right now. Ahh, joys of viper ownership.

VPA had a good number of these parts in stock. Removing the door panel without damage may be the hardest part. This photo shows the method I used to remove the panel undamaged. (Pry up in the clip area, at the same time bang up on the bottom door panel.)

If you remove all the screws from the door panel you will have enough room to get one arm in at the bottom and push the clips from the inside. The clips are on a 45 downward, you don't want to pull the panel straght up or out

I have an 08, wonder if the Gen 4 panel attatchment clips are differiant.? There was no room for my arm, and the clips are vertical as in pic. I pulled the bottom of the panel out approx. 4" then popped it streight up. Re: Window Regulator -GEN 3/4 Archilles Heel UPDATE 3/23/13

UPDATE ON REGULATOR INFORMATION!!! was at the Viper Plant on 3/22/13. Spoke with a technician was has been there 12 years. At one time he was responsible for installing the regulators and glass in the doors. I asked him if he was aware of the regulator problems we were facing today. He stated he has never heard of such a problem. He went on to only say that you had to be really careful when you installed them in the door and showed me how he used to do it. ( One arm at a time!) I TOOK SOME PICTURES of the ones they are using today! You will notice the same part number, but different letters at the end. When I purchased mine from VPA earlier this year, they indicated they were the most current ones and actually had a current date on them, and they were AF models. (Part # 04865610AF). Notice the new parts are now #04865610AH !!) Must be some new upgrade, but they still look pretty much identical to what we have. I know this doesn't help our current problems, but it appears some changes have been made and the complaints that have been made apparently haven't gotten very far. You would think the installing tech would have heard something about it. Anyway, here are the pics.

Update!

Just received some inside information you may like. The newest design regulator is very close to being available and should be under $300! It has been going through a couple design changes to make it bullet proof before being released. It would have been out already, but if it was rushed the final items would not have been caught till it was too late. Testing showed that at around 7000 cycles there was still a weakness that needed to be worked on, now the new design will meet the 10,000 cycles and be much less fragile when it hits the shelves in about a month.

Thanks for your patience on this,

Finally a ray of sunshine regarding this design disconnect. Thanks for the heads-up Mark. :2tu:

I have my Viper at the dealer right now and one of things was to fix the passenger side window. They called and said they needed to replace the regulator and they were on back order.

The last email I received from the engineer was that the supplier was changed and they are slow to get up to speed. He is trying to rush them to put some in the system, that was last week. Sorry for everyones inconvenience, I know your pain as there have been other things in the past that have been similar. We do have their attention though and SRT/Mopar are doing everything they can to push the manufacturer.

I think the plastic sleeve that covers the cable is cheap and becomes brittle over time, breaking and causing the cable to bind and then breaking in other sections until the window fails. I just had my second passenger door regulator fail last weekend. Any machinists or mill wrights out there who could fabricate a new metal housing and sleeves for the cable to replace the plastic? For $1,100 for the part a group buy may offset the set up and assembly costs.

We regulators are closer, but with all the new suppliers like with the filters things are moving a little slower then anyone wants. I will check again, maybe they can release a couple dozen? Will try and ask again Monday.

Is this new part standard fit on the Gen5's ?
Or are they shipping with the current substandard ones installed?

The regulators in the Gen5 are the new ones, the ones we are waiting for are going to be a superseded part number that will better fit the Gen3/4 cars and the Gen5. They are close, wish I had a ship date, but not going to quote any till I know for sure, they are close though.

EEK. My passenger side window is starting to make some aweful noises. I guess I'll use it as little as possible. I feel that the released parts wont be available for another couple months. Even if a few are released, it should fill back orders first.

Do you think I should get my window regulator replaced, I have an appointment for Thursday 5/2/2013 or should I wait to make sure they use the new version ?

If you could wait I would and when they order the part make sure they have the latest updated regulator part number and not some old stock unit.
