I m due to have the windshield replaced in my ACR this week and needless to say, i am more than a little worried about the final outcome of this "SURGERY" on my baby. Im having the glass co. do the work at my Chrysler dealership,as the car will be there repairing driver door opening mechanisum.{will only open with emergency latch}. I have insisted on a glass with Mopar part number. Any other precautions I need to be aware of?

Watch them, just had it done at my house. SAFELITE did it. They were fantastic. There is a ton of urethane holding it in place. while removing it, they may scratch the inside frame. They just touched it up with matte black paint. They made me feel good, as they had already practiced on a bunch of other vipers..I also had the mopar windshield.

I saw a 20/20 report on windshield replacments a few years ago. They were saying that many windshield replacement companies use a cheaper sealer that doesn't hold the windshield in during a rollover. It turns out that many people have died because the windshield would pop out during a rollover. The windshield actually helps support the roof in case of a rollover. They showed one guy's SUV turned over, he would have lived, but the roof collasped too much when the windshield pop out and broke his neck. Also, they had a windshield company come out while they video taped from a distance to see how most of these companies install windshields. The two guys installing the windshield made many errors. One was not cleaning the out edges of the windshield. The other was actually handling the windshield edges with there barehands. The oils from your hands will effect the sealer from working properly. I don't know the different types of sealers, but they are not made all the same. I would find out what type they use and see if it is the best or at least the same type used at the factory. Don't take the installers word.

I had mine relaced when the car was brand new (was leaking badly) and beside watching the guy doing it, I masked beforehand, with masking tape, the roof, side pillars, the inside frame and the headliner all around the edge.

Glad that i did since there was quite a lot of black sealer on the tape on the edge of the headliner.

BTW: since all dealers subcontract this type of job, it don't have to be done at the dealer, mine,at my request, was done in my garage
