I was driving along when I noticed the oil gage pegged

WOW pulled over and found nothing. No leaks, oil level ok,not overheating,no noise. I suspect a bad sending unit but I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. All other gages are fine. The car has 25k miles on it.

I always thought when a sending unit went bad that you would get no reading. Not pegged. I hope I don't have a short

I like your car, dunno why?

More likely than not your problem is the pressure switch.

The best way to test the sending unit is to: use your multimeter and measure the resistance between the sending unit terminal and ground, you should get from 0 and 10 ohms.
Keeping the connection you get someone to start the engine or do it yourself and you should see the resistance go between 30 and 35 ohms.
If the above test works you have a bad pressure switch. Guages don't normally fail.

Looks like its the sending unit.I got no resistance. The gage inside the car pegs when disconnected also. Theres another sending unit next to it and it is for the Check engine light. It measured 8 ohms so it looks like it is working.

Better yet the thing only costs 36 bucks. I will get it the first of next week

Tiepilot-thanks for the info. Nice car!

Don't you mean you have infinite resistance? No resistance (A zero ohms reading on the VOM) would be equal to a dead short to ground. Unplugging the gage would be the same as an open (or infinite resistance)in the circuit.
