You guys made the right choice. Have seen both the Autoform and the "Mopar" in person lately, and the Mopar just looks right. Good call guys.

Install go easy? Template for the holes? Time?

Measure, measure, and MEASURE again before you drill. The template that comes with the Mopar spoiler sux and is way off.

Took me about two hours, total.:2tu:

Plum, I have no self-confidence issues...I have had a long, successful corporate career but now I am a retired person. My wife is much younger and a successful consultant, but still, we are a one income household with two young kids. In terms of life priorities, the Viper is way down the list, purely a toy. That said, she is the one who bought it for me as a birthday present and said I can do one major thing to the car each year to keep things interesting. She just asked me the other day what I want to do this time....to me, that is giving me the go-ahead for adding the spoiler. We have a great relationship and I don't hide anything.

Everybody has different relationships, this is mine...but, I understand some others would not do it this way, that's cool for them if it works.

I was just kidding ya. It's all good if it works for you. It makes me cringe everytime I see that kind of post.

So is the tail functional (meaning adds enough downforce to notice on the track) or aesthetic?

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!! The short answer is YES, but read-on.
BE CAREFUL WITH AERO DEVICES! a B-747 Rotates at ~145 mph..... You Can, TOO!

Mopar did some extensive wind-tunnel tests on this SPOILER, and I believe it makes 100-300 lbs of downforce from 70-120+ mph. IMPORTANT GEN ONE NOTE: Once you get above 125mph, the GEN ONE NOSE CAN GET A BIT LIGHTER. [The Gen 2 Nose is quite different, and stays planted.] I had a friend-customer take his 1993 on the Pony Express 100, Gen 1, Mopar spoiler.... at 145+, his car wanted to track STRAIGHT (understeer-push) on some fast sweepers...WHY? There was too much rear DOWNFORCE at 145+, making his nose light. He was a great driver, and instinctively lifted just a tad, re-planted the nose, and made the corner. The next-week he lowered the car with Gen 1 Eibachs (now discontinued) and some winglet-canards similiar to GT2. The next year he ran the Pony he was planted fine.

I actually tested mine with a poor-mans-wind tunnel. I put a pillow in the trunk to keep it from latching. I went down the track like hell, and the pillow squished and the trunk latched! Downforce proved in 1995!

Congrats on the wife letting you spend some money. Great find in a wife that makes decisions with $$$. Now get back to cleaning the kitchen, vaccumming the house,
and don't forget to take the trash out....Have fun...

I am fully certified interior firefighter, been in my Vol. fire department for over 9 years. Was Lieutenant for four years until this year...too much administrative stuff. Was still in the corporate world when I started in the department and continued after I retired from that job.

Frank...not all bad when you consider I don't have to deal with the level of stress everyday from my corporate job. My stress now comes from whether I can get my kids ready in time to make the school bus. While I do think retirement is a bit "mush-brainy", overall its actually pretty good. I can take the RT out when I want, spend hours cleaning it if I want or watch an afternoon baseball game...not terrible.

For me, life is great...wouldn't trade it for anything else!

You said your wife lets you do 1 major thing a year to keep things interesting, you must have been a good boy this year cause you just put the Roe HF Cats on 3-31-11!

Matt...yeah, I know, exactly what she said to me....but I said that was part of my Christmas gift, so she said "oh, okay, whatever"! :D Like I said, she is very cool and never really hassles me about my hobbies, also have a 14 piece drum kit with five snares (okay, she said she would kill me if I bought another snare).

Hey, I like everyone to be happy, kind of a cumbaya thing.:2tu: To be clear, the "permission" thing really has to do with spending on my hobbies...which, for her, are very VERY low on her priority list. In everything else, we make decisions together....she has learned that if she doesn't control me, I'll just keep on spending to further my hobbies....can you say, roller rockers, head work, headers....oh and at least another couple of snares! See what I mean???

the whole asking for permission and getting approval from a wife for this stuff is foreign to me and gives me ****** chills. why on earth would you admit that ?

but good move, it will look better with it

Vipurnor, we have a lot more things in common than you would believe, but my little boy won't ride the bus as long as I've got the Viper! How do you get away with it. My wife is also 11 years younger than me & I'm pretty much retired also. But I do have to check in every now & then at my trophy & awards business. Its a small world.

Vipurnor, to make it even scarier I have the Same mods as you except I have Kumhos & my RT Hi-Flows will be in monday. Now does that mean I will end of getting the rear spoiler also? LOL

Matt, that's funny. You know, when my wife and I got serious, we actually planned for me to retire and take care of the house while she worked on her consulting business. Its worked very well for us, but clearly it's not for everyone.

Looks like now you're destined to get a spoiler. So, does this mean I have to check with you before deciding on my next mod? :)

I'm with the original poster. I spent 27 years as a cop, 15 of those as a sniper on the SWAT team. Now I'm retired, my wife holds the purse strings as a scientist while I keep house, get the kid on the bus, do laundry and cook.

Yup, I gave up my man-card and I'm loving every minute of it. There's nothing like retirement.

I hate to add to the off-topic conversation, but I can't resist...I too am a kept man...haven't worked in 5+ years, no kids, younger wife that is a mid-high level exec with a software company. All of my buddies would trade places with me in a minute. My only priority is keeping the wife happy and I enjoy doing it. In return, every day is a Saturday for me...gym, golf, mod the viper, drive the viper, whatever the f--- I want to do. The man-card and loss of ****** comments absolutely wash off my back...I love them...jealousy has many faces. As has been stated, it's not for everybody...people are wired differently, but my...
