Mark, that is awesome. Can you give a "rough" level comparison of what the two settings on the GTS would compare to on the settings on the MCS? I am guessing MCS with its huge range of settings covers more at both ends, but curious.
I guess also gives the great benefit of dropping the GTS...
Bruce, this is a good post and describes the experience very well.
But I think to emphasize the point others have on paddle shifters, I would just ask this? If a manual Viper is so engaging on the track, then wouldn't a AC Shelby Cobra being even more engaging? No ABS, shorter wheel base...
On the pricing issue, I am a bit surprised. think of the following:
2005 Gen3 was 85k in 2005
2010 Gen 4 was 95k in 2010
Gen5 can be had for 90k-110k easy for SRT on the low end or GTS on higher end.
So, why does anyone think it should be priced at 85k (05 pricing) ??? sure, if new GTS's...
sorry, think my statement was interpreted differently than I planned. My point was around the majority of prior vipers are conv and for those owners looking to upgrade to a GenV, they don't have an option if they still want a conv.
Gen2 owners can always say the car looks to similar and the...
I actually think we kid ourselves when we say this. The fact is a set of loyal Viper folks are the ones complaining the most. The fact is most vipers are conv, so those customers have no option. The fact is most performance cars in this price range are paddle shifters. So, when someone...
Steve, I am confused. The GT500 is not a conv so wondering how related to the topic of conv availability. If you could not afford a GenV, then it really does not matter if a conv avail or even it HP for that matter, right?
Again, why do you make this statement in regards to Vipers. The sales data would suggest otherwise, so that is why I am asking.
Facts:
1) more conv vipers have been sold than coupes.
2) the biggest viper potential "upgrade" customers would be Gen3's which were mostly (80%) convs
So, I am just...
But I don't think there was a big weight savings. The car weighs more than the SRT, so I think Ralph said only 25llbs less (may have been even less) than the GTS. Remember, those brakes and sway-bars are heavier. Did the ACR have troubles after 25min sessions with its brakes? No. Trust...
Sure, understand, but what are those gains? Looking for facts on this, not marketing. I do track all the time and totally understand what you are saying, thus my quests for the facts.
Specifically, on a track, what is the difference in time/feel between a Factory GTS with aero and track...
Bruce, thank you for the thoughtful reply. I was aware of all of the differences. I agree with most of what you say. My only point of difference is on the performance gains. With the GTS being so close in times without the aero and track alignment, it does make you wonder on the benefits of...
This is an interesting thread. Interesting for a couple of reason.
1) the Perception that the TA is a hot commodity and going to sell out soon. I actually don't know if there is data to suggest this is true. There are roughly about 20 for sale on the market right now all at or below MSRP...
I thought all of the SRT weight savings (50lbs) came from the deletion of sound insulating materials.
For 2014, not sure the weight savings still exist for the SRT because they no longer offer the lighter brakes which are now standard on the GTS.
To add to this a bit, I would go back to the root of the comment. Why is it that the vette is invisible and the Viper is not? That is really the question and just my thought, if you are spending this kind of money, you want to feel good about it. For some, it is bragging about the...
If you watch the gm videos of the engineers (forgot which one), you will see where they say it will be heavier. They also have engineers (who are less marketing focused) saying how it will be close to the ZR1 and they are still working on things...
In the press, they clearly stated the zo6/7 would weight more than the stingray base car. They also did not say it was faster than the ZR1, but said it was close. The only place they said faster was on their track test which we really don't know much about. Only point being, from the...
I am not following this statement.
From the data we have seen, the TA has the best track time with the GTS very very close to it and then the base SRT model super close as well. Almost splitting hairs between them, especially if the aero bits are installed with the production models. So, why...
Just a couple correctsions:
1) brake comment in unfounded on the "vastly superior" comment.
2) better suspension? what information is telling you that
3) Viper pricing in stratosphere - easy to get a GenV for less than $100k, so not sure what referring to.
Do you guys really believe this Z06...
I have yet to see a factory SC car good at the track for a full 30min session. Maybe this will be the first, but heat soak has historically been a big issue. I am sure it will be great for one lap though. Will be great on the street and for the folks that want to tune.
If you friend in the GTR with Hoosiers is a good driver, I don't think you are not going to be able to keep up. the tires do make that much of a difference. time will tell. My point on the trailer was as a prior person stated, it is much more relaxing there and back, place to store stuff and...
Good point BigDawg. I think of it this way:
1) for me to "consider" purchasing the option, it would have to be DCT for the perf increase.
2) to sell more cars (if I was SRT), it would not matter. They could put in the 8sp they already have access to, (non DCT), which is still a great tranny...
