    track fever

I forgot to mention, as the list goes, you then get an enclosed trailer and don't drive to the track. turns out when you put the goodies on the car (good breaks, track tires and alignment, etc), car is not great on street and you start to think of things like getting a flat, tire wear on the...

    track fever

If you are going to track it, just buy a 2nd set of wheels/tires. much easier. Also, once you have the r-compounds, you are not going to want to go back. The frustration of not achieving the higher speeds will bother you. As others have said, progression is the following: 1) street tires...

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

Gen3's were the best selling vipers (avg # of sales per year produced), so the Gen4 statement above makes no sense. Reality is the economy had an effect, adding a 100hp and better tires helped the car be better, but not enough to satisfy customer demands/desires that were changing. It should...

1 of 1 2013 Viper - Someone needs to buy this!!

Bruce, doesn't is fail one of the main criteria's in your definition? "elite automaker" Dodge/SRT would never be confused with an "elite" automaker and that might get directly to the point on why many would never consider a "super car". Again, goes back to the point that performance is not...

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

I believe the big flaw with your logic is the people you speak of are a super rare and even rarer today than 20yrs ago. What was once viewed as acceptable is no longer the case. btw, Never heard of an automatic as a hi-tech item with big maint? come one, been making them for years...

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

Actually, you could be much more clear. Give it a shot and explain what "Its a precision tool designed for use by a very specific customer." exactly means? Who is that specific customer and what is the precision tool part? I am sure you have an opinion so good to spell it out vs thinking you...

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

What exactly do you think the Viper is? (ie, your description of a prostetic leg). Isn't it a sport car. I think of it as a track car, but others auto cross it, drag it, show it, etc. So, I guess not sure how different than a vette, 911, R8 which people do all those same things. The...

    Gen V Roadster...spied!

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

We are not referring to a custom transmission only for the viper. These transmissions already exists. It is not a horsepower or torque issue. AMG has a whole line that can handle it. Bolt pattern? don't think that is a big issue.

Pics of a GTS w/Stripe with color match rear tail light surrounds?

yes, but was thinking with the stripes flowing through. I assume this is a photoshop as the blue is not exact, but yes gets the point closer to what was looking for.

Pics of a GTS w/Stripe with color match rear tail light surrounds?

does anyone have a picture of this or has anyone done it? Specifically, would really like to see the blue/white launch edition with color matched rear (vs the black), but any color would work. If you can tell, I don't prefer the break-up of the stripes and the separate color except maybe...

    Anodized Carbon Special Edition!!

I get a bit confused by these matte or satin finishes which I think basically means there is no clear coat on top. (oversimplification I know) Where I struggle is you can't wax or polish them and hear even finger prints are difficult. I guess the point is I hear the maintenance on it is very...

    $34,380 off MSRP Loaded GTS!

I heard the dealer owner was driving it around. easy to get 350 miles that way. Better color combo, it would be an easy choice. Looks like a great deal.

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

I think we were just talking about having an automatic as an option, right? You make a great point that many today view a manual as extremely old archaic technology. (ie roll-up windows). Why would I have a manual that I need to shift myself when I can have a modern transmission that is more...

If not mistaken, weren't the gen 3's the highest sellers of all gens?

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

I think you just described a used Gen2 viper that you could get much cheaper, put on new brakes/wheels/tires/gears, moton suspension, then go play. But in today's world, even in that 70K price range, you would have to do much better to compete. Shoot, the new corvette z51 is in that price...

    Told ya...

This is hilarious. really is the exact same debates. cracks me up how little changes, how some don't want change and others want massive change. But you go back and read this and like looking at the same exact thread 10yrs later. Only differences (why no coupe, want more colors, don't like...

    Ralph wants/needs an automatic

I get really confused on these discussions and what the "real" viper is. At one level, everyone says its about performance. "Only give me items that add to the performance, don't want any fancy interiors, etc" So, I get very confused on why the auto/DD comes with any resistance? It makes...

    Told ya...

Come on Chuck, you know that is not the reason. Really, are sales really down? They are up from the Gen4 sales when you factor how many have been sold in 1/2 year. I also think a bit dramatic to say Dodge built for us. They were Dodge when they build a modern day cobra and used typical cheap...

SRT a brand or a trim level?

As far as the thread, interesting discussion. I just wonder if the bigger plan is to get rid of the Dodge name all together. Moving the trucks away to RAM took away all the profits. Moving Viper away took away the halo. Remove the SRT offerings and what really is left? As much as it pains...

SRT a brand or a trim level?

do you really find people are confusing your SRT Jeep with a normal Jeep? Pretty obvious they are build for speed and not going off road. I personally love them, but don't really think sleeper material. As a note, the C63 is a fair amount faster (unless taking off where the roads are wet)...

How will the Gen V perform as a collectible that retains value over time?

I am not sure that is the reason they hold their value. I think more on the low #'s, 2yrs only, historical tis and a great looking car. As far as easily moddable, look at the ones drawing the highest $'s. Like always in collector cars, they are the ones that are stock...

    SRT all access.....fail

That is for approx. 1/2 of the year, correct? Also, if so, isn't that many more (than for the same time) than that of the Gen4 sales for 09 and 10?

    SRT all access.....fail

Wow, now this is hyper sensitive. Also really describes the problem a bit. You are not mentioned, get defensive and then say "I am the VCA". Give us all a break. I was a member as well. You pay an annual fee to get some access to things in the club, but don't call yourself the club...

    Told ya...

Bob, I appreciate the optimism, but not sure you realize how bad it is. I have friends that are viper owners, never involved in the club, barely check the forums and yet they know the dirty laundry of the club. In short, they have no respect for it any longer. Then to follow it up, they come...
