It depends... I use it more to know how closely I need to check a car over. Things like odometer discrepencies are usually errors these days. Documented accidents and title history are another thing.
^ What chassis are you basing your car on? Buiding a completely new tubeframe like the FFR GTM? That front looks really cool... I assume those indented ares will be the headlights?
Doesn't really scream Viper to me... more like RX-8 + Evo + Corvette + Panoz which is still a very good thing.
FYI Carfax/Autocheck are not God.... especially when it comes to odometer discrepencies... it's very easy for a paperwork glitch to trigger it and very very hard to get it removed.
Panoz has a broken crank... snapped it at the UTCC so it's waiting for a new motor, and I just finished the TTA Z06 so no trips out west for me this year.
I'm nearly 7 hours of the way... so no. Like I said I played on the golf team in college w/ 2 guys from the area and it's very much country out there from the times I went to visit. Ther's some old money in the area, but it's still country. I'd be very surprised if there were any Viper techs...
Bah... you had to go buy that POS ACR to barely get around VIR ;) Sure the Viper could do more with differeng powertrain configurations, but IMO the V10 makes the car... kind of like the V8 makes the Vette and a flat-6 makes a 911.
You probably don't recognize this screename, but you may...
Never ever trust a car salesman/dealer.... and this is coming from someone who used to sell cars. Personally, I was always 100% honest and accurate, but I'm a detail-oriented (read anal) car enthusiast and I certainly wasn't the norm. I sold Porsches/Audis/Jags so the crew at that store was...
I know the Viper is technically a front-mid configuration as are the C5/C6 Corvettes in that no part of the engine extends beyond the front wheel centerline.
Didn't realize they were rearward weight biased.... I do think getting that big lunk of a trans rearward will allow them to make a much...
People don't always realize how big Virginia is.... Wythevill is nearly 7 hours from me here at the coast in Va Beach! Played golf in college wtih two guys from that area.... Wytheville adn Abbingdon.
While I'd love to see Viper come back to ALMS to compete in GT2 w/ the Corvettes, that doesn't exactly make business sense. Gee lets take a company that just went bankrupt, then take a car that nobody is buying right now, then spend millions to go racing only to develop a new car and bring it...
There's a white Mamba one for sale on here for $33k, but it's got 87k miles and a motor repalcement under warranty (per the ad). Says it's got a clear Carfax, but if it was ever wrecked and repaird out of pocket it'd stay off Carfax/Autocheck radar.
There is no serious discussion of a TT V6 for the C7. There is talk of an eco-boosted Mustang GT seeing as Ford can make lots of power with that package.
GM (and Chrysler) knows you can make lots of power and get good fuel economy with the current V8s via variable cam phasing and direct...
IMO it's only logical for the Viper to have a few more creature comforts and accomodate taller/larger drivers. Yes the Viper purist loves the spartan/Shelby Cobra/kit car feel, but the average consumer looking to spend $100k +/- doesn't enjoy that. They need to make some money off of the car...
^ I find that Gen2 cars have worse headroom for me and I can't stand the pedal configuration... no dead pedal stinks. That said, I haven't been in one with a proper seat lowering setup.
I want open air and the rear end of the RT/10 doesn't do it for me.
^ I know this is a Viper forum, but I'm not really missing anything... my Z06 still puts a smile on my face and I have a Panoz GTRA as a track toy.
My cars are paid for and I don't have $45k laying around right now... have to decide if I want to put the Z06 up for sale, but that'll take...
^ My Z06 is a C5 and it's a 2001 so it came with the 385 horse LS6. It's making about 440 rwhp now and I made it a targa top.
I'm not concerned about the power... I want the Viper for the looks and top down ability. It'll be a weekend toy/cruiser.
I'd slam it and put some HRE 542Rs on...
So I take it the airbag issues only apply to 2008s and 2009s? I'm leaning toward keeping my Z06 (put way too much time/effort into the car) and getting a red '03 or '04 for low 40s next year.
Lets hope (for my sake) that Dodge doesn't stop making the Viper so it stays in my current price range.
Hey Lee... I'll give George a ring and see if I can hook up with him for that. I may not be able to get off work on sort notice, but I'll see as it seems like fun, he's told me about it before. Sounds like my issues are pretty easy to solve then :)
