    Results of my Saturday Dyno-Day

Mark, great results! I'm glad your car did the '97s proud. Don't let the post-'98 guys hear you calling 430 rwhp "just ok"....

Any hints on how to make your car move smoothly from 1st gear??

I recommend revving to about 4000 rpm and side-stepping the clutch.

    "GORT! KLAATU BARADA NICKTO" Anyone??

Re: \"GORT! KLAATU BARADA NICKTO\" Anyone?? Gort was the robot in "The Day the Earth Stood Still". The quote was the command that caused Gort to cease and desist, if I recall correctly. Oh, and Klaatu was the man who came to earth on a mission to get us to end our bellicose ways. Played...

Can I ask one simple question before Saturday's Dyno Day

Re: Can I ask one simple question before Saturday\'s Dyno Day Mark, If you believe the info in the FAQ, the answer is 13% for your '97. www.viperclub.org/faq/powerfaq.html RWHP = 0.87 * FWHP, so FWHP = RWHP / 0.87. That being said, who cares about FWHP???? All that really matters is...

    Went to Carlsbad Drags today.....

Good for you, Ken! I think SoCal better watch out for you next time we go back to Carlsbad as well! We all know that SoCal can be beat at WSIR by a less powerful car, as I demonstrated in my Z06 in our last outing there. Note, however, that SoCal continues to ignore this reality when he makes...

    Pix from Carlsbad this weekend

Hello to the gang who came out to Carlsbad on Sunday. If you remember, there was a fellow, Mike, driving an Acura CL (I believe) who took some digital photos. The link to the photos is: albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1135564&a=13563770&f=0 Enjoy!

    Went to Carlsbad Drags today.....

I had a great time, guys. Likewise, good to meet those of you I haven't seen before. Thanks for the compliments, Steve and Ken. Not much to it, really, when you've got ET streets. So long as you get a solid burnout, launching is so much easier than on street tires. Though, I expect I still...

What a good inexpensive rear wheel/tire setup for occasional drag racing?

My personal opinion.... Don't mess around with drag radials. Spend the few extra bucks to get the extra traction of ET streets. Get Purner's slick and skinny setup. Depending on what you mean by "inexpensive", ~$2500 for wheels with ET streets on the back and skinnies on the front mounted...

Drags at Carlsbad, Ca. this Sunday...

2charmed, Sorry, SoCal is right. We depart from the Chevron station at 6 am, not 7 am. Just wishful thinking on my part.... BTW, I never ran quicker than a 12.8 in my Z06, so don't be disappointed with upper 12's. Also, you know you need a helmet, right? Sorry if I'm stating the obvious...

Drags at Carlsbad, Ca. this Sunday...

Steve, Cost is $12 to enter the facility, and depending on what bracket you enter $20-$40 to race. For time trials only, I think it's $20 to race. You can just show up and pay once you're there. Cash only. Gates open at 8 am, racing starts at 9 am. I will be there, along with some Vette...

    lower octane in California

Hmmm, I just noticed that as I was fueling up on the way home last night. I figured it was just Chevron, but are you saying all premium has gone to max 91 octane in CA??? Now I, too, am curious if this is going to be a problem. Fortunately, the Union 76 by where I live offers 100 octane...

    Drag race results

Congrats on your first time at the drag strip. Did you enjoy it? 1. An approximation of rwhp can be made from trap speed. According to a table in Tom Welch's drag racing video, with a 116 mph trap speed, your wight to power ratio would be 8.4, so if your fully laden weight were 3600 lbs...

Joel, Sorry for the delay in my reply. I just saw your post now. Congratulations on your Viper purchase, and I'm glad I helped sway you! As it turns out, I am hoping to be back down at Carlsbad on Sunday the 29th of July. Any chance you can make it out? I'd enjoy seeing you again and...

    Torque calculations

Yes, the same conversion factors apply for torque as for power, at least based on the numbers in the VCA FAQ. www.viperclub.org/faq/powerfaq.html Numbers cited for the '03 are flywheel. For your '96, take your 475 ft-lbs and divide by .87 to get ~545 ft-lbs.

    The real original anyone?

John D, When I click on U.S. (English), I do not see "corporate photos" as one of my choices. There are "recent headlines" on the right, including the 2003 Viper press release, and there are a bunch of Chrysler news clips in the middle, but no "corporate photos".....

Renting Willow Springs for the day, who wants to go???

Ken, Attitude? What attitude? SoCal and I are the self-proclaimed Mumfoberg of the straight line. No, we can't hold a candle to you road racing, but so long as I beat SloCal, who cares? Yeah, I know, you're lap times are 20 sec faster than mine at WSIR. BTW, on our last outing to WSIR, my...
