GENI & II OEM "like" Radiator Replacement Option

Ron, I'm not sure what conclusion I would come to, but it might be interesting to know how much each weighed when full of coolant (or water.) That would determine the volume difference.

    "dinosaur"?? really?

I often reply that the Viper is the brute force approach while a Corvette or Porsche are the finesse approach to a fast car. And, um, all meet EPA emissions requirements and the fuel economy for 2010 Corvette 6.2L SC is 20MPG hwy, Viper is 22MPG hwy, Corvette 7.0L is 24MPG hwy, so middle of the...

How does everyone like there side sills.....

If anyone is interested in Gen 1 sills for racing, I have some that were dented/flattened on the bottom because my car is lowered. From above, not too bad looking and certainly "useable." I can send pix.

How does everyone like there side sills.....

I put rear exhaust on my Gen 1 and used the Gen 2 side sills. The clever designer put an extra layer of fiberglass on the top section (separated by an air layer) so the heat upwards (your leg, your hand when you get in and out) doesn't get too hot. You may have a little trouble installing...

    Why would anyone do this?

No, it doesn't. I had bad O2 sensors on my '94 and was shocked that the time period of continuous "bad" signal had to be greater than ~12 seconds before it lit the MIL. Just a few seconds now and then would not do it. It ran kind of crappy but since the yellow light didn't come on, I never...

Another exhaust question re a 95

May be heresy to some, but I put a Gen 2 system on my Gen 1. Piping all bolts up, can get Gen 2 sills, package gives you a few more options. Ha, ha, I did it to make it quieter. A 50 mi commute each way, so I want to hear the phone in the car.

Sorry, this is going to be another temp issue thread....

Looking back at the whole story - 220F is barely above 212F, the boiling temperature of water. 50-50 mix boils at 265F (with pressure cap) so you are far from having a problem. If the temperature cycles between 200F and 220F, it might just be the thermostat opening/closing, the fan on/off, and...

Sorry, this is going to be another temp issue thread....

This could be a sign that there was air in the system, part of the head/block dried out and particles are the decomposed additives from the coolant. Ever see a dried out overflow tank?

Cooling options for GEN I ( I already used search button!)

Agreed, but it means the coolant temperature is cycling over a larger range from minimum to maximum. Gaskets don't like this. Stepping up on the soapbox, I'll say that lower coolant temperatures were a significant benefit when carburetors sat on water cooled intake manifolds. A lower coolant...

    Tire dilemma

Tires age based on heat cycles, maximum temperatures, anti-oxidants in the formulation, exposure to sunlight, inflation pressure, and other things I can't think of; not just the calendar. There's a little room for good judgement. And if you have 17" tires, I'll pay shipping.

Considering a Gen 1: What to watch out for?

I think those recalls were for the Gen 2, not Gen 1. Gen 1 frame was pretty solid. Being in the additives business, I'll suggest the "head gasket" issue was really a "poor quality anti-freeze" issue and you should put (any) long life coolant in there ASAP. Any coolant leaks will be visible on...

Cooling options for GEN I ( I already used search button!)

Sorry, it can't. Once the thermostat opens at 170, it cannot help cool the engine if the temperature is 190. A lower thermostat begins to try to cool the engine sooner, but by itself is not efficient in doing so. The only thing that helps cooling at 190 is a better heat exchange (radiator...

Cooling options for GEN I ( I already used search button!)

I have a '94 - purchased in Montreal - so I have what you had. My original radiator had a poor solder, the dealer offered a replacement. By that time the replacement was a Gen 2 radiator which was the same size, but the studs to mount the fan shroud was different. They gave me a Gen 2 fan...

Fuel Cost and MPG from our Gatlinburg trip with the Viper

More smiles per mile. I commute 104 miles/day. In a 2006 HEMI Charger I average 20.6 MPG. In a 1994 Viper I average 20.7 MPG. And I'm not driving slower in the Viper.

    New tires warning

As part of my job, I monitor vehicle parameters during the Federal Test Procedure. This test not only certifies a vehicle for emissions compliance, but generates the city and highway fuel economy numbers. To see what might be important during this test, we used infrared temperature sensors to...

Would you buy a Viper with 28000 miles

Bought mine with 30,000 km in Canada, now have 116,000 miles. You'd buy any other car with 28,000 miles, right?

    A/C O-rings

Don't do this - but if you ever touch an AC compressor while running you will find it is HOT. Proximity to the exhaust doesn't help, but the heat it generates anyway makes you wonder how it lasted as long as it did. I changed only the o-rings on the compressor in/out (on my '94 many years ago)...

Gen 2 doors on a Gen 1.. Yes you can!

I imported my '94 from Canada. The US model '94 has seatbelts that roll up in the door; the Canadian model has seatbelts like an airbag car. All the threaded holes were there; need to get the panel behind the seats with openings for belts (or cut your own) and inner door trim without the holes...

Gen 1 oil fill cap 0-ring size?

Har-har. 114K and adding 104/day. Walk close to my wheels and your leg hair will have mascara. The generic cap has the right thread for the rocker cover? My Charger, Jeep, Neon, Dakota all seem to have something different.

Gen 1 oil fill cap 0-ring size?

Has anyone replaced the o-ring on a Gen 1 ratcheting oil fill cap? The cap part number is 4621 875. Mine is hard as a rock and leaks down the rocker cover on the manifold and block. My o-ring, that is. Measurements of the old one are roughly 1.225" ID, 1.395" OD and depending on the...
