The threads are metal, I'm guessing epoxied into the CF.
PepBoys sometimes carries torx-style tamper-proof tools, but you can also get them at electrical supply stores.
As for loctite hardening, I dunno. I thought I read in Screw to Win the heat and pressure from the threads tightening is...
Either way its pretty hard to screw up. Whatever you do, I'd make sure the bolt is loosened all the way and apply some more threadlocker (I've been using blue locktite). All the wing fasteners seem to have threadlocker on them, which typically only sets from heat and friction the first time its...
Unless you're launching on sticky tires or at well-prepped drag strips, why bother with gears? Traction is already iffy in 1st, and you could use that money to just increase the power of the car (which would make traction even iffier).
Sure. I'm even known to wash it on occasion. Aside from how easily 14" wide rear tires hydroplane, I've found the car to be pretty easy to drive in the wet. In moderate rain, it can still pull over 1 gee in low-to-mid speed corners, probably more at higher speed...
Thanks, thats what I'll do...
Damn, I'm sorry I missed that. What sort of lap times were the ACRs running?
I'll have my ACR out at the Jan 17-18th PBOC event at Sebring. I know some Comp Coupes are coming; I hope some more ACRs do too.
Two ACR-specific problems I've run into with my car that owners should probably be aware of:
1) Dive plane cracks around the rivets and/or loose-fitting rivets:
I appologize for the poor quality, but you should be able to barely make out a small crack in my dive plane, starting at the very back...
I've had my stock ACR at 180 (actually 179.7 on the GPS) and it was still pulling. This was with 140/111mm ride heights (read: a lot of rake), the wing set to the stock '2' position, and the front splitter installed. There was no wind to speak of, and the road was flat (not downhill, according...
Consumer credit is, in aggregate (I don't have any statistics for the automotive sector specifically) up from last year. I would be hesitant to believe that Chrysler's woes are primarily due to a lack of financing options.
Huh? My ACR bounces off the rev limiter around 126, and thats according to my GPS DAQ, not the speedometer. Yours will do over 130? What do you rev it out to?
Most 1-piece rotors have vanes as well. Hell, the $25 rotors on my C5 have directional vanes. I wouldn't run the rotors in the pic in my dog's lawnmower.
My ACR pushes a lot with the OE 295/30/18 in front and over 2 degrees of camber. The NT-01 275/35 is 1.2" narrower.
So I agree, thats going to suck for track use on stock wheels.
I know.
...well, actually you could probably do it, it would just feel really sloppy and certainly not be ideal. Some autocrossers run a 315/335 combo on C5Z wheels (9.5"/10.5") with Hoosier A6s.
Nitto already offers a 315/30/18 NT-01 (as well as a 275/35 or 275/40 for stock wheels).
Nitto NT-01 tires listed by size
Personally I'd prefer a 19" rear.
Yes!
I've run these tires on my C5, while I've driven on PS Cups on my ACR and another car. I'm not sure what the ultimate difference in grip is between warm PSCs and NT-01s, but I do know the NT-01s are far better when cold. Once PSCs get a few heat cycles in them, their cold grip drops off...
With what damper settings? The problem is that the street settings are very under-damped, i.e. it makes the car behave a bit like it had blown shocks. Good for comfort, unless you're on an unusually bumpy road. Then the thing bobs up and down like a pogo stick. When I first got my ACR, I drove...
Even with the recommended street settings, the suspension is too stiff for you? Wow, I thought it was really comfortable on those settings...
I don't think less spring rate is going to cause any serious issues. You'd sacrifice handling and may have some wheel-to-fender-liner contact where you...
My 11.45 run did 99.3 in the 1/8th, with only a 2.01 60'. I think the 2->3 shift (which I did flat-out) plays a big role in the 1/8 mile speed, as well as any wheelspin after the launch (which I didn't get any of).
Gen 4 Vipers with a 6500 RPM rev limit (i.e., with the Mopar ECU) should fall back to the following RPMs after shifts:
1->2: 4447
2->3: 4643
3->4: 5000
4->5: 4810
So except on really tight tracks (where you probably can't use full power anyway), I don't think loosing some power below 4000 RPM...
Mark,
I'm definitely going to be purchasing headers for my ACR, though up until now I was really considering Hennessey's, for three reasons: 1) Their 5->1 Burns Stainless merge collector; 2) Their 1-7/8" runners; 3) I don't care about power under 4000 RPM.
So I suppose I should ask, how do you...
Last a checked a month ago, Kumho was planning on doing a production run of their larger size tires in "3 to 4 months", according to the supplier on the other end of a phone at Discount Tire.
On their website, Kumho claims these tires have an optimum temperature of 205 degrees. Most...
