I'm looking into options for aftermarket engine management for a 1996 RT-10 (i.e., Gen 1.5). I'm wanting to balance cost with benefit. Ideally, I'd like a single replacement ECU rather than piggy-back affair but am wondering what the options are and what these will cost... The car's NA but has had heads, cam etc done. But in the future I'm thinking of going for the SC route (Paxton). Thanks in advance!

The only option out there is an AEM stand alone, cost $2800. You would be better off to go with a Vec 2 at $1000. You can pick up a used Vec for about $700.

I've got it on my Supercharged/NOS car and love it. Do some research and ask the people that are familiar with it(Tator's Dodge, Armour Racing, etc). It works for me, but AEM is also very good.

An SCT tune on your factory computer is another option. Are there any tuners in your area familiar with vipers?

As 99R/T10 said, the VEC (2 or 3) is a proven "piggy back" option and the AEM is the common stand alone. Unless you want to spend $$$$ on a Motec.

Stop....plan out your whole future build out. Go as deeply and broadly as you can, work out the details and stick with your plan. There are huge differences between the units mentioned above and your unit will only work well based on your mods and your commitment to tuning. If you have no interest in tuning yourself....then go to the person you trust and KNOW to tune well and ask him to make the choice.

This field is changing so fast that when you are ready, things will definately be different.

Ditto to what Yankee said. The answer is different depending on how far into the tuning you want to go yourself. I've got a VEC and like it a lot, but I enjoy playing with the tuning process.

I have a VEC2 that I'll sell for $600 shipped. It's in great condition and works perfectly, comes with a couple of tuning cards. Send me a PM if you're interested.
