AHHHH...1st problem?

Oh well - driving today (was nice and sunny) and the radio just stopped working. Display, controls, CD Player all work - just no sound. Am I missing something here or did the radio die?

Still was great driving listening to the "MUSIC" of that V-10!!!!

Have you refilled the speaker reservoir yet? You can get speaker fluid at most popular electronics stores.

Does the SRT have a remote amp like my GTS? Check the fuse on it? And the plugs to it?

Check your hood speakers, sounds like a wire has fallen off Or your just not driving fast enough for the sound to make into the interior from the hood speakers.

First, you are a bag of **** to be even complaining about the radio not working when you have a V10 in front of it.
Secondly, same thing happened to me and the head unit was fried. Time to rip it out and upgrade!!!!!

Very common for the SRT, excessive heat caused your amp located under passenger seat to auto shut off. This has happened to me several times until Corsa Exhaust was added, big difference. This is supposed to have been addressed with the 2008.

I have never attempted to address issue under warranty repair, I just decided to upgrade to the Corsa Track Exhaust. However if you decide to go that route I am sure some sort of heat wrap around exhaust/ inside of side sills would be what the warranty repair would consist of. By the way your radio should return to normal producing sound once every thing cools down.

Are you kidding? This is the PERFECT excuse to get a Corsa cat back and HF cats!! You wont even hear the radio when its working.

And DONT WRAP YOUR EXHAUST. Some owners have had smoky BBQ'ing of their sidesills due to excessive trapped heat after wrapping.

I had this happen once. After parking and coming back to car all was fine. Never had a problem since. Heard same thing, amp overheats and shuts down.

My RBQ radio would intermittantly re-boot through the CDs and reset the volume to zero ever since it was new, not 1.5 years later it is dead.

I assume it is still under warranty so I'll have my local dodge dealer check it out.

Its happen to the two srt-10s we own in my family. Interestingly enough, it only happen when new... over time it sorts itself out.. i know you dont want to hear this... but even if they replace it under warranty, the new unit is going to do the same damn thing.

The fix in the short term is to not listen to it so loud, at some point i had figured out exactly what the max amount was I could listen to it, without shutting off, but then once everything "burned in" it all seemed to work great. Might have taken a few k miles though.

Keep in mind the speakers are a bit "tight" too when new, so it takes a while for them to break in, and before they do that, it requires more volume/amps to push them .. once they break in, it'll all sound better, and take less power to make her crank.

PS. when it cuts out, you can either turn it off for about 20 minutes, OR you can actually leave it on, and the volume will return once the amp cools off.

Well yesterday here is what was happening.

Was driving and had the heater CRANKED on floor/defrost and was playing the music pretty loud.

After about say 30 min or so, the radio cut off again. Just arrived at my destination and was there for about 15 min or so. Come back out to the car and radio works again. Keep heater off this time and radio works fine. So yes, I do believe it is some sort of heat issue as was suggested earlier in this thread.

Were the amps used just so cheap in design or construction that they would cut off like that or is it related to something else with the amp? Just never have seen this sort of thing happen before.

Like others have said, the amp is just getting too hot and self shuts down to keep from burning up. I have had a few LOUD stereo systems, not in my Viper of course, and if you crank up the BASS than they will over heat faster and self shut down. How loud do you have it and do you have the BASS cranked up? BASS really puts out alot of amps and in turn heat. I dont know the exact amp output on the stock amp but I am sure it is not that great.

Probably a generic amp typically installed somewhere besides under the seat of a high hp car with exhaust near by.

Just be glad you're not in one of these...

And to test my theory, turn down the BASS all the way, just have the treble on and see if it cuts out.

I hear you. I turn the music up pretty loud and have the bass a bit higher than the middle. For some reason, the audio in this car is not quite as good as it was in my Z06 and when you have too much base is it pretty distorted. I had the bass and treble turned all the way up in the Z06 and cranked the music constantly (for over 7 years and 66,000 miles) and never had any issues with the audio system. Not necessarily knocking the system in the Viper - but to me it seems that regardless of how high I turn the volume, treble, bass or heat, the amp shouldn't cut off like that. I'll eventually have the dealer check it out and if they replace it and it continues to do that I guess it will be stereo upgrade time.
