I had the skip shift thing turned off via the SCT...and I didn't save money with Geico.

I got so frustrated with the skip shift that I started taking off in second :dunno:

Our cars have a skip shift? Oh but mine is the faster B/W versus the slower RED cars...that explains it.

42k later, and I've never had the skip shift block a shift of mine. I must be driving my car wrong or something

:drive:Real men have a heavy enough right foot..................

How do you keep from running into the car in front of you in stop and go freeway traffic? Do you do the old man/lady thing and just pause as if you aren't aware that traffic started to pick up, and then take off after a gap opens up? That driving style by others starts to annoy me when I encounter those types in Priuses or Buick Park Avenues in front of me, so; I don't do it, myself.

I had it programed out by DC when the cpu was updated by them. Before that it was not an issue. You can shift from 1st to 3rd or whatever higher and not engage. That is not releasing the clutch. Just move the shifter up then back down to 2nd. It works. GTS Bruce

My 2001 throws a code. A worthless code, but may mask a more potent code if you just drive around all day with a CEL. ;)

The cheap version I just installed is from an auction site. They must be near a bay, given their name.

I've never put one on the Viper, yet I've spent well over $10K the last 2 mos on other mods:lmao:

ok, is it the same as the corvette...? vette folks call it 'cags defeat', I only spent 99 cents.

On my last vette I just bought a 1/2 watt 2.2k ohm resistor - they sell them in a pack of 5 for 99 cents at your local chain electronics store. You just pop off the CAGS harness and plug in the resistor where you would plug in the skip shift eliminator.

Same as the Viper...?

Exact same thing. Basically the same transmission with small internal diference due to the Viper's torque. I went the same route. I was under there changing the transmission fluid anyway, so why put up with even an occasional annoyance of a nanny telling me when and where I have to shift. The resistor is a simple install, and I had some heat shrink to tidy it up rather than using some "cruder" electrical tape.

The resistor in the pic was simply dissipating too much heat.

See if you can clean it up enough to read the colors on it and get a replacement that is rated for higher wattage. You can buy them already mounted inside an aluminum heatsink with cooling fins.

Dave: If you have burned up a skip shift eliminator, doesn't that mean you have spent too much time in the skip shift condition of about 15 MPH and light throttle?? If you were really going *** MPH and more gas, it might have been unused. What have you been doing?

:drive:??

I sold my condo at the drag strip and moved into a neighborhood. They appreciate the courtesy of my granny like exits and entrances!

On a more technical thought pattern, it would seem like that tiny resistor (1/2 watt?) versus the load of the coil when it is connected, would be orders of magnitude different. I'm just wondering if the heat that resistor generates is too much for it's size. Maybe I should wire in a George Foreman grill to do dinner on the drive home. Seen them in white.

I hit 4th base this weekend. Does that count?

Sounds like a shuffleboard touchdown.

BTW, the staff is considering an automatic upgrade to DD status for you. You wore out/burned up a relatively "stock" part on your car. We're just making sure we can consider the CAGS eliminator a relatively "stock" part for Vipers.

Let's assume worst case; say, 14 volts across the resistor. Power = V squared divided by R. So power = (14*14)/2200 (if they used the 2200 ohm resistor recommended on the internet) Thats .089 W. Between 1/16th and 1/8th Watt.

I'd guess that they used too smaal of a resistance value.

那些將工作!

Words spoken at skip shift manufacturing plant when they found the parts bin with the resistors in it that they used on mine.
