Just read in AUTOWEEK.COM Dodge plans to build 2500 to 2600 vipers (2008 model).

I REALLY THOUGHT THEY KNEW BETTER THEN TO FLOOD THE MARKET AGAIN.

I SEE NO REASON WHY THEY WOULD EVEN MAKE A STATMENT LIKE THAT.

What do you all think of this ?

I seriously doubt it

A. It would go against everything Viper is about.

B. They wont forget about the rebates they had to give to get rid of the 06.

What's so "floody" about 2500? That's still a very low production number and it would help keep the price down. I wouldn't mind seeing more Vipers on the road; I do get lonely.

They can build 100 or 100,000. I don't care. I just want them to build it the way I want it. Lotsa HP and no nannies.

Oh and radical styling is nice.

In comparison Ferrari sold 5658 cars in 2006

whoa! thats more than the 4038 ford GT's made for the years 2005-2006
I've seen 2 ford gt's, 5 vipers, 1 SLR (today), and 20 or so ferarri's over the last 365 days. Ferarris are a dime a dozen around here.

i guess it really depends on where you live. i live in tucson which has a lil over 800,000 people. i see vipers about once a month. there are less than 10 ford GT's in my city. as far as ferraris go i see one about every 3-4 months. lambos only like once a year. but then i live on the outskirts of town. the only mclaren SLR i have ever seen was at the barrett-jackson auto auction last year. they had it on display inside the tent and even had a spare motor on an engine stand. man was that car ever ****.

The funny thing is the SLR I saw today was brand new, and broken down on the side of the freeway.

At first I thought it was a gen3... the rear looks very similar. The stodgy old bald guy that was on his cell phone, obviously ******** at the dealer that sold him this POS was obviously p!ssed. :D

Wish I took a pic.

Model year will be longer than 12 months, 600hp will sell many more units and a bunch of us will be lining up for the 675HP deal. If that turns into an "ACR" version they will be building two models.

I think that this viper is going to sell. 600HP for one but mainly the improved internals (clutch, engine, tranny) will make Viper much easier to live with. I think that current Viper was repelling quite a few buyers because of the heat, tranny issues etc. so they went to porsche etc.

I have not seen that many issues with the Viper transmission...they may not be the smoothest but I don't think durability is an issue. I think they are just preparing for more HP and higher RPMs

I would wish I could say I didn't have problems to shift from 2nd to 3rd on the racetrack... the damned gear just won't go in when warmed up and the fellow viper owner experiences the same.

How many TSB's (technical service bulletins) will happen with the new motor? Lets get the wagering going. Two, three? Dont buy the first year. Look at all the impruvements over the years on the engine with the gen. 1 and gen. 2's.

Actually the more Vipers they sell the better chance we have for the next new model to become reality. The more they sell, the longer the life of the Viper.

On the other side... buy as soon as it's out because after you wait a couple years, you're only that much closer to a new model being announced making you obsolete. Buy now to get the longest bang for your buck.

Buy the best you can when you want, and never look back. Don't sweat the small stuff.

If they remembered the lessons from the TSB's of the first gen 3's into these cars (the concept and production SRT), there should not appear many if any at all this time unless the rest of the block has changed drastically. At least I hope not.

That reminds me of when the C5 came out. I walked into a Chevy dealer and asked if I could test drive one. The salesman said "NO WAY" they are a limited production this year.... Only 25,000 to be made. ;)
