Here is something I came across. It is not the best color scheme but dangit, it is stil a Viper!!! Anyhow, I have some questions about this car. For starters, I have seen it before like 2-3 times on Ebay. Am I the only one? Second, it says it has extremely low miles, but reads over 42k. Am I missing something here? The radio, while he says fix it, is it pretty easy to get a CD wire adaptor to put in a DVD / TV player? Also, anything else you can tell me (including but I HATE to ask ) even the Vin# check...(God I feel dumb asking.) I am thinking not a penny over 25g-30g. What do you all think? Thanks in advance...Frank

Sorry I can't post it as it appears on the report. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Anyhow, *** WF!!!! I mean seriously, I now know why this thing hasn't sold yet. And this guy expects to get more then 20g for this? I would only consider it if it were fixed PROFESSIONALLY!!! Let's say it were fixed professionally, how much as an offer? It has closer to 100k, not 42 as advertised. I am really cautious, really very very really cautious now. (But once again, fi ti checks out, doesn't need to be perfect.)

Uhm...that make a difference?.........lol

But in all seriousness....How would I go about checking this car out? I already emailed seller about condition and price and stuff. Where do I go from there?

White was not an option in 94.

Why the total repaint?

It states ABS and power windows as an option, both not available for 1994. I wouldn't even bother with this one, somethings not right.

And not only has it got a salvage title and high miles and a crook seller but you will never get it for the kind of money you are talking about.

If it look's nice and runs ok, someone will pay about $25k for it.

I've never seen any good looking, good running Viper sell for $20k, salvage title or not.

Re: Avail-Viper....WHAT THE HE-LL!!!

I would be conserned of the improper color for the year and salvage title. Mainly how badly it was damaged, who fixed it and how....
It's not a problem with a GOOD bodyguy, but in improper hands you will end up loosing big time. This car may be difficult to sell in future too.
I lived in Dallas area and do not remember seeing this car, maybe it was painted later? Texas guys, any one who remembers this one?

I would take this car to Huffines Dodge in Lewisville for a complete check BEFORE bidding a dime on it! They have one of the best technicians in TX.
I dont think they will sell it for 25, just my opinion. Maybe 30-32? Its a dealer, they dont care.

Ps. Looks the surrounding areas where the pictures were taken.

Does that make you feel better to buy from this dealer or worse...

Re: Avail-Viper....WHAT THE HE-LL!!!

Saw that one....If it had financing, I would probably get it... But honestly, unless the Viper i want has some sort of financing ( Thourgh dealor or private party ) I don't think I can get one anytime soon. Do many people finance their Vipers? Is this a bad thing?

p.s. - I have completely disregarded this one car. From the color to the CarFax report, I am freaked out. It's better to back off, pay 10g more, and get a at the very least way more dependable car.

p.s.s. Joe - :D

I try not to finance autos because of depreciation. I do finance appreciating item, as real estate.

Why would you even consider a bastage like that?

Definately NOT one I would even remotely consider, let alone look at, but, to each his own.
Good luck!

Frank:

Glad you decided to stay away from that white RT. As Cody asked, "Why the repaint?" IMHO, somebody "scotch-taped" that puppy back together and didn't even flip for a replacement front emblem, then used a color not even available in '94.

Have been reading many of your posts over the past several months and know you want a viper bad; reading about your first ride was a real enthusiastic event! Went through the stage you are in at present and after about a year of looking and thinking the matter through, decided that buying a pre-owned viper was too risky - but that's me. You really do get what you pay for these days. Please be extra careful while searching.

Re: Avail-Viper....WHAT THE HE-LL!!!

A couple points.
You're looking for a very inexpensive Viper. Therefore if you do some deep investigation and use the resources of the board you might be able to score on somebody elses mistake. On the surface this looks real bad, but here is where I would start with this one and look a little more deeply.

The mileage, it just doesn't make sense, it jumped from 14,980 on 1/22/98 to 92,532 on 2/17/99 ALL those miles were put on in 13 months?? Then I notice who recorded the 92,532 mileage "An independent emission source" The prior mileage of 14,980 was a Texas Title issue. I think that POSSIBLY the dweeb emissions guy stuck his head in the window and read the mileage wrong.

Salvage title, probably goes without saying the car was in some sort of significant incident/accident..our biggest clue is that the car is a total repaint. White was not offered that year. Having said that, I happen to know a significant number of Viper owners who have gotten killer deals on their cars because they did the research and founf out the car had been rebuilt properly.

I would get the seller on the phone and ask him about the history of the car...nicely....I would tell him about the mileage and the salvage title...nicely...I bet he doesn't even know about the mileage and he may be able to correct that if it was a mistake by the emissions place. Your next step will depend on whether you got decent info. from the phone call. If the guy sounds decent and can fill you in at all on the history of the car..best thing he could do would be give you previous owner contact info. Then your next step is to have someone on the board look at the car...lot's of knowledgeable guys in Texas...If your board contact says it looks good and drives good have it inspected by the Viper tech mentioned.
Now after all that, DON'T try and buy the car on EBay, I doubt it will sell, some chump will bid high and then get scared away. Make contact after only the auction and see if the high bidder did bail or if it did not make reserve. And then open a conversation with the guy.
You may be able to document this car had a light accident...remember Vipers have a HIGH repair cost and this is a 94 so if the repair was over $20-$25k it might have been totaled, and the hood alone could have been close to half of that.
Bottom line...If you can document what happened with the damage, if the mileage is a mistake, and a Viper tech says the car is basically sound you MIGHT be able to steal it, and everybody else will run the carfax type stuff too and back off so the seller may basically give it away eventually.
Remember you're putting your mental sweat equity in it beacause you're on a budget, so do your homework, work the sellers after the auctions fold and NEVER fall in love with any ONE car, always be prepared to walk and you CAN find a bargain somewhere.
Final point...whoever painted this car did not do it cheap, it would have been much cheaper to put it back original color and NOT add stripes (by the way tape or paint?) So my guess is whoever did the repair/repaint was an OWNER of the car who cared, not some callous dealer/flipper. And that bodes well for the quality of the rebuild.
I'm looking for a track car, I would consider either of these and will probably pursue them if you're not interested, heck I'll help you make the phone calls to the guy if you want, I make my living on the phone anyway. Rest assured I would not try to get ahead of you on either deal though, I'm only looking casually and you need a Viper more than me! PM me if you want some more advice about dealing on the phone with the guy if you decide to go forward at all.
Final, final point..anytime you buy a car with a salvage title cheap, expect to SELL it cheap too AND be prepared also for the kind of abuse Bonkers gets by having shared his cars history here.

Re: Avail-Viper....WHAT THE HE-LL!!!

Franciso...the red one did not sell, it would appear the seller is a dealer, contact him and see if you can buy it off auction now and if he will finance. Alternatively looking at the high bidders feedback on the red one it would appear he's a dealer so if he has checked it out it might indicate it's ok AND he has good feedback while the original seller has none. You might email the high bidding dealer and make an offer to him if he will finance, and obtain the car for you.

I checked through the Dodge dealer computer system and that Viper had a complete warranty restriction placed on it. Just wanted to add my info.

That Viper shows up as originally being red from the factory. No factory warranty whatsoever. Aftermarket warranty contracts-I don't know...

Re: Avail-Viper....WHAT THE HE-LL!!!

Francisco, we KNOW it was red right? And of course the factory warranty has expired. And it may be too late, barely, for this year to qualify for an extended warranty. But call Bill Pemberton ot Chuck Tator first before you give up on the idea of an extended warranty. This is just like all the other aspects we talked about, by taking the extra step and effort AND using the contacts of some of the loyal dealers who support us here you may pull off the seemingly impossibe. I'm impressed with how far you've come already in investigating these deals. And it's just like the mileage thing, don't worry YET about what the dealer computer says. It may say that because of what you've already learned about the history of the car.
