I could put you in touch with my local track owners .... they own 2 tracks: Bradenton Motorsports Park 1/4 mile. They had over 200 people racing on Sunday (Runday Sunday, just a test & tune) $15.00 each, people watching paid $10.00. Second track is 1/8 mile Sunshine in St Pete.

The worst thing about the location is that it'll be shut down for half the year (weather). Other than that it doesn't look bad being located between Pitt and Cleveland. Lots of legalities to research though. Are there any groups – environmental, political, ladies weekly biitch club, that want to close it down? How much land does it include? Can you expand? Can you make it profitable in the winter? What's the bottom line?

Mojo check into the insurance first. This in itself might be enough to give you your answer.

Ricer gets hurt and you better have some good coverage.

yes you can make alot of Money, Look at Bill Bader and Norwalk but you have to fix the track right and keep your racers happy. So that means for a while dumping money back into the track.

Maryland International Raceway, also an IHRA track, is one of the best run and best maintained facilities in the country in my opinion after visiting many IHRA and NHRA tracks. The owner, Royce, continues to reinvest profits year after year into the track and its surrounding facilities. Has a nice playground for kids, track has been resurfaced, new tower built with suites, new grandstands, etc. The racers come out in droves because Royce and his family run a first class operation. You may be able to contact Royce at 301-884-9833. Also check out their website - it speaks for itself www.mirdrag.com Some of the Maryland guys can also vouch for what I say - I personally drive 90 minutes from Richmond, Va bypassing two local 1/4 mile tracks to go to MIR

I think we should have a member run for governor of California.

If we can get a VCA member to run , lets do the vote count in Florida!

We have a local NHRA drag strip that was struggling but then teamed up with the local police to offer Midnight drags. This ongoing event was to get the street racers off the street and on the strip. It is truely incredible how many people come. 300 cars/bikes come every other friday @$10 each and then about 5000 people come @ $5 ea. You do the math. Test n tune only brings 40-50 cars every other wed @$20 ea and 50-100 spectators @ $10 ea. The big events that happen once a month bring a lot of people but I do not know the numbers but the Midnight drags is where the big money is at!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!

BTW, ask Larry Macedo how many people come to the Midnight drags, I took him there.

The midnight drags is a great concept. Spectators behind guard rails, instead of standing along side the road, etc. I know the Orlando and Bradenton 1/4 mile tracks both do it.

I would wonder what Northern tracks do for winter.....1/4 mile snow mobile races???

Check these issues as well:

Local ordinances about track usage (usually has decibel limitations in play for all non-National events, track time useage limitations, maximum parking, mandatory safety crews).

Can be a real winner! How large is the parking lot? Raceway Park in NJ converted part of it to Kart racing, rents out parking lot for SCCA autocross, even police maneuver training, and now, the new craze is "sliding" (or something like that), where ricers fling themselves into oversteer and slide it in circles for as long as they can.

drifting is what it's called, just an art form by using oversteer. It's actually pretty cool to watch, at least on video.

the import sceen is where its at. Our local strip has trippled its gate when they started to do import nites. The big difference is the kids bring the girlfiends. Instead if having to battle with the family for race time, they bring the family! think about it, how many times have you heard someone ******** about"my wife wont let me, the kids have base ball ect".

this track seems to have a good history and it is packed every wednesday, friday and saturday. its had some fun events as wel this season, like i said though, im just now starting to look into the intricasies and such so i will inevitably find out what its really all about. its alot of money so ive got much homework to do and when it comes to business (unlike everything else i do) i dont play around.

i can say this; if i do end up the proprietor of an IHRA track you can bet your assses its gonna be one of a kind and will be top notch. and i will definitely have events like no other

Tony; Ill find a spot for your plane, LOL

If you have the means to buy a track at more or less a whim, I would be very careful of your exposure to liability, especially if the track will be making most of its money on amateurs. I always cringe thinking of all those ricers out there. Much better than the street but it is just a matter of time before some kid's mom is suing because her kid, high on whatever, wrecked his car, hit the car he was racing, etc.
