Her' a quick hitory....4100 miles right now....at 3600 pun a rod and had the engine rebuilt....

last week left my gas cap at the station....CEL came on and today put a new cap on and started it up....CEL stayed on...

question is if it is the gas cap, and I hope it is, do I have to drive it or get it to the dealer to clear it?.....thanks

Not sure on your year car but on mine the CEL will self clear after the PCM performs a certain number of tests on the EVAP system. I think it takes three successful self tests and the light should then go out.

On my 09 it took more than three "drives" to get it to go out, some of the tests it has to pass are quite specific and lengthy from what i could glean from the interweb. One of them was 8hours -3c temp change and no more than <a little bit of level change. Light didnt go out untl i left it in the office carpark for 8 hours. Putting it in the garage will most likley cause a +tive temp change.

But it did go out in the end on its own
