Does anyone agree that disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, then reconnecting may reset the system? Works on my "normal person" car.

Check the wire plug under the seat. Make sure it has a good connection, or didn't come loose. Push the seat forward and tilt the back forward, you'll see a small harness coming out of the carpet and plugging into the underside of the seat.

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure 'whats up with it', (assuming you don't see something unplugged or damaged with a visual inspection), is to have a full-function scan tool (not just an OBDII code reader) to access the body control module / SRS-AIRbag system.
If there are codes, there you go. If not, you will be able to access input data to see what the problem is. (switch not opening or closing when it should)

If you move or adjust the seats a lot, maybe the problem will be there with the harness or connectors.
If you never move the seats, probably not......scan tool required. :(

I'm also betting that when you insert the seat belt into the latch, that it simply closes a switch inside that latch to make the 2 wires connect. It may be a bad switch in the seat belt latch. Seems you could override this function by placing a small resistor perhaps across the wiring harness plug that comes out of the carpet. Any of the guys here that have installed racing seats probably has the answer to this, since they no longer have factory seat belts. The female latch is actually attached to the seat frame in the Viper.

FYI .......The common failed part is the driver's seat belt receiver/coupler. Because it sees most of the action and gets the most wear and tear.
The switch / sensor in it that lets the SRS / BCM know that you've buckled-up wears out.
You have to replace the whole receiver to fix it.
Have seen this more than a few times on various vehicles.

The other thing that causes this receiver/coupler to fail is spilling a drink into it, or cleaning/detailing products. :nono:

If the Viper is similar to other Chrysler vehicles, the SRS is looking for a specific resistance value.
That is how it will know if the system is OK or not.
If the value was only an open or closed circuit either way, if the circuit went open (unplugged), or shorted (wires chaffed to ground or power or each other), the SRS wouldn't recognize that as a failure condition.
Hence the specific resistance value for the sensor/switch.

Don't know what the race seat guys are doing, maybe they will chime in. -pun intended! :lmao:

SWEET PROBLEM SOLVED. Thanks guys for your help and comments. I was coming home from work this morning and my elbo pushed down on the seat belt, pushing it deeper into the receiver and bingo, the light and dinger went away. I held it with my hand and the light and dinger stayed off. I pulled slightly on the buckle and the light and dinger both came back on.. So I called the stealership and its a $40 part. New receiver on order. Now the fun starts, I get to turn some wrenches. Again, thanks guys. I got a little discouraged though. I first went into the "New Viper Owners" section where I also posted about the issue and I got a ton of views but not a single reply. Then I came to this section and saw you guys had indeed replied a few times. So, for that, I thank you..

Yeah man, no kidding. Im definitly not use to the car yet. Im coming from Vettes, and year theyre quick, theyre a lot more forgiving. The Viper can get out from under neith you quick. I was crusing at 70 MPH today and just rolled into the throttle and I went sideways. Had to stop and clean the crap out of my pants. hahahaha. Not use to 1000 HP, thats for sure. But Ill get it. Im a quick learner.

Well having that much power Definantly doesn't help. What tires are you on? I hope at least a drag radial with that much power.
