Does the Gen1/ 2 look better in 2010 or in 1992/96?

The Gen1 with the clean sweeping lines are very modern looking still. The vents on the Gen2 date the car a bit. Most folks are more curious about the Gen1 than the ACR. Although the ACR gets more camera phone action at the gas stations and on the hwy than the RT....or the RT is just so fast I don;t have time to notice the cameras :dunno:

PS:
Get that foreign crap off the post please!!! Post a photo of a 1967 Ford GT-40 Mk2. Ferarri, Jag-U-Rs....what are you thinking:omg:

It's not that the RT is faster...it's just that you have to focus a heck of a lot more on driving it then you do with the ACR ;)

Also, while I agree with the Gen 2 Vents being a dating factor...i have to throw in (on the RT model only) the rear exhaust...IMO I think the side exhaust (especially when you go through a dusty road or start up on a cold day) is not only exotic, but iconic to american muscle (which perhaps is one reason why they brought it back?). Don't get me wrong, i like the GTS, but for me, the Gen 1 RT (with different wheels mind you) is still the best looking Viper (not necessary the most aggressive, mean, whatever other descriptions you might have) overall. I even get GTS guys come up to me after driving behind me and say, "wow, I forget how low and wide the RT's look" Also, I do believe the side exhaust makes the car wider than the Gen 2's...as on the Gen 1's, is the side exhaust not the widest point on the car?

IMO, the only variable not being mentioned here is that our opinions regarding this matter changes over time as these car aesthetics become more (or less) familiar to us.

Specifically addressing the topic of this thread, as a GEN2 owner, I was wildly more appreciative of the GEN1/2 body style over the GEN3 when it first appeared. Now 7 years later (and as a GEN 4 owner), I find the GEN1/2 body style to be far less appealing (than before) and the Gen3/4 style to be more to my liking. Can't say exactly why, but now, I do find the GEN1/2 styling to be dated. Just 3-4 years ago, that was not the case.

That's not to say that "dated" is unappealing, but I prefer "dated" cars to be just that... "dated," i.e., at least 40ish years old. Like the XKE (a few of which I've owned) a Ferrari 246 GTS Dino is a dated look that comes to mind as something spectacularly appealing.

But...what the heck do I know? :dunno::D

The Europeans and the Brits appreciate the Viper and the other american muscle cars and sports cars. The fact that they are from a foreign country makes them even more exotic... works the same way on both side of the pond... Lots of Viper owners here have a foreign exotics as well... The world is becoming smaller... Even the AC Cobra is a foreign car with an American Soul... I love the Viper and you can make a case that it looks better than any of the other cars posted here but there is no denying the influence...

I believe at one point a Ferrari GTO sold for over $13 million... Doesn't it feel good to know that a Viper has some of that DNA and that you can go out into the garage an unleash a car that will run with it and past it in many aspects..

As a GTS owner I will echo your sentiments about how good the original RT/10 cars look... especially from behind...

This picture makes a great case to leave the stock gas cap on my GTS alone rather than swapping it out for the sneaky pete mgw cap.

The gen II GTS is the most timeless Viper to date (IMO). I know a few bench racers like to talk about how the gen III+ cars are a little quicker, but a modded gen II can be just as quick and still has those timeless curves.

There are certain cars that will always have that mistique even though better performers have come along... Hemi Cudas, GT500s, Countach, Testarossa... The GTS and the RT/10 are right there with these types of cars IMO...
