500 hp? sounds like he would only get one pass per motor with that much power...

my friend ran high 8's with only 240 rwhp in his gsxr... now he has a busa, and is thinking about a turbo...

I was at the strip last night (without my car) and there was one Z06 (black on black). The car only had 2000 miles, it had run a 13.8 @ 103MPH the guy said his friend had run 13.6 earlier, and they had one run at 14.5 with a passenger in the car. Funny thing was, as I was talking to him he said I wonder if anyone brings a viper here, hahaah hope he is there next week. I know convertibles require roll bars....but if I put the hardtop on can I get by without the roll bar? One other interesting thing that I saw, Hayabusa (spelling??!!?) 500HP turbocharged 30psi, the guy that built it said they were running 15psi and probably 300HP. It ran in the 8's.

A lot of it has to do with the track conditions, and how well the track is set up. I have been to several tracks with the 340 six pak car a few years ago, and my best times(14.9) were at a track right close to home. Times varied from a 14.9 to a 15.6 from track to track. Atmosperic conditions also have something to do with it, as does tire pressure, I never lowered mine at Gateway (ran 32 psi, way too high for drag racing). We ran a consistent 13.7 with the Viper last summer at Gateway on Saturday morning, when it was wet and very humid (3 passes). I know that with a dry track, lower humidity, and lower tire pressure, the times would have been much better, that and my getting used to launching this brute. It does not launch like the 340 six pak at all! However I did cut a .517 light on my very first pass in the Viper. (Leave on the last yellow, leave on the last yellow) Not bad for a 55 year old wanna be drag racer!

Allen you can run your RT with a hardtop, I do it all the time, times must not be under 11.99 or you get booted for no rollbar (which I'm too close to). I run steady loooowww 12s with my snake, some of those Z06 #s are sheer imagination, compared to a Viper they are sleds!!!!!!

Allen, what track were you at? If it was anywhere near sea level, 13.8 at 103 *****. I am far from a seasoned drag racer (though I managed to kick SoCal's a$$ last time we lined 'em up -- sorry SoCal, can't resist), and even so, I've gotten a bunch of 12.8-12.9 sec runs with my Z06, at 110-111 mph trap speeds. Of course at altitude, it would be a different story. I might note that there are plenty of totally stock Z06's dynoing closer to 345 rwhp vs. my 336 rwhp pull.

Good luck to you when you get your beautiful yellow beast out there, Allen!

I was at Palmdale, it was 79-80 degrees that night. Just wondering, will I be able to beat that 13.6? I have a stock (except for smooth tubes and K&N's) 95 RT.

Absolutely! I've seen gen 1's - completely and utterly stock (no K&N's, no hoses, no performance exhaust, etc) run 12.5's in HOT weather.

At Palmdale? You realize that's at 2600 ft elevation. Count on upper 12's to low 13's.
