I wen't to get a insp. sticker Tuesday and failed. It did not say why it failed. The readout said all the OBD Monitor Results were (Not Supported). I have got the same (OBD Not Supported Monitor Results) in past years and not failed The station operator called the state because he said he never had this problem before. After talking with them he handed me the phone, they told me that I would have to set up an appointment with a state Motor Assist Center, which I did for 8am today.

I got there this morning and while talking to the operator I told him I had heard that more Sport Cars were going through the system and he said yes. He said that more Sport Cars are reflashing there computers and that last year the state has put in new software that will pick this up.

After going through there inspection he told me I would have to get my ECU reflashed and bring it back for another check within 60 days.

This car is a 2000 GTS Steel Gray with cognac. I am the third owner purchasing it in April of 06. I had looked at it in oct. of 04 at Fitzgeralds in Laconia NH when it was for sale the second time. It was purchased in March of 05 buy the second owner. The Original owner purchased it in June of 2000 from Fitzgerald Dodge.

Now when the car was purchased new It came with a Fitzgerald Snake 530 Kit
373 Gears
Speedometer Correction Module
Roller Rockers
Hi Flow Air Filters Smooth Bore Hoses
Performance Headers
3" Cat Back Exhaust
8mm Suppression Core Wires
Engine Controller.

These parts are supposed to be all Mopar parts with Mopar part #s. The controller is supposed to be a Mopar performance controller and I don't think they can be reflashed.

I guess my question is that if these are all factory parts and #s and sold without any waivers or disclaimers why should the car be flunking emissions and need to have a different controller put in.

Oh . Buy the way the package cost $9995 at the time.

cobraman, the controller may be from mopar but it is probably tagged "off-road use only". Instead of a re-flash maybe you could switch out to a stock unit for emissions then re-install. Reach out to Mark at Woodhouse, Chuck at Tator's or Dan at DC Performance for their advise. good luck. Mike

You'll most likely have to do what redtan said... put the OEM unit back in for the emission test and then reinstall once you get your tag... or move to Florida.

What they said above... The Mopar Performance unit won't pass in California, and MA is almost as bad as CA these days (soon all states will adopt the same dumb-ass rules). Swap the original controller in, drive it around for a few days, and it should pass. About the only problem you 'might' have is if they put your car on the rolling dyno while doing a tailpipe test (they do that in CA) and the RPMs don't stay in the right range because of your gears. But, that would only happen if you didn't recalibrate for the 3.73 gears...

Edit: By the way, I noticed you're up in Lynn MA. I used to do work with GEAE way back in the day doing helicopter engine control design... Spent plenty of time in Lynn :)

Martin. I worked there for 38 years in both Turbine and aircraft.

If anyone out there knows the part # for a 2000 GTS stock PCM could you please let me know.

Thank You.

Technically, you should be able to get a variance for existing equipment that passed inspection after purchase. You might have a case with the DMV.

The PCM must perform regular checks on the engine and emission systems. When a test fails it usually sets the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light or Check Engine as it is often called). If you have a MIL set the car will not pass emissions. In addition there are tests called IM Monitors when you disconnect your battery or clear codes using a code reader the IM Monitors are set to Incomplete. The car must be driven to set these monitors as complete. Not all the IM Monitors will complete in one trip. The EVAP Monitor will only run under certain operating conditions (like gas tank has to be between 15 and 85%, if its full the Monitor does not run and shows Incomplete). If the IM Monitors are shown as Incomplete the car will not pass inspection. In MA I believe the EVAP Monitor can be incomplete but not others. The rub when you put in the Mopar controller is this - they don't ever run some of the IM Monitors so these monitors will always show as incomplete and the car will fail. Only solution is to reinstall a stock PCM for inspection.

" they told me that I would have to set up an appointment with a state Motor Assist Center" . . . . God I'm glad I left that state!

Viper Tony. Thanks for the info. I new I had downloaded that file to my computer but couldn't find it. I didn't put in the right search criteria. The number you gave was for the cover. It looks like the PCM for the GTS is 04865413AA.

I have to go in for Carpal Tunnel surgery on my right hand in the morning so I don't know if I will be able to reply to some of the posts for few days. Thanks Guys.

This might be a really stupid question.. but would using a SCT Handheld Tuner to program different tunes into your car affect anything resulting in you not passing emissions too?

Sorry for the typo. If you want to verify it's the correct PCM part number you could always call Chuck Tator, VPA,etc.
