Sorry, please PM me your # and I will call you asap. We have been very busy with some new platforms that we are fixing to be releasing! :D

Do you offer any other power, non turbo, upgrades for the Gen 4 VVT? Something
that just controls the cam for more power, and maybe a little lope at idle.;)

We could do this for you... but it would be far from cost effective. The controllers capable of controlling the Gen-4 engine start at about 10K for hardware alone, and easily hit 20K installed with all of the bells and whistles.

I heard a rumor that one of our Viper tuners was close to breaking the code and coming out with a flash for the Gen 4 computer.....any truth to this? Thanks

I have heard rumors as well, but I would expect only partial abilities. There is far more to decode in the VC, and it is a very short production run compared to the JTEC. Any tuner would have to be nuts to invest a ton of time in the VC, there just isn't a large enough market to absorb the R&D costs. Time will tell, but I wouldn't count on it being anything like the Gen-1/2/3 cars- if it happens at all. Now, if the new Gen-5 continues to use the VC, then perhaps that would make for a better case to put in the R&D costs.

I was wondering what happened to this car and why no videos or news about it.

I think this viper is for sale, go to UGR web site.

I think the owner of this car is the same guy that crashed the gallardo, so understandably, nothing has probably happened since.

That guy is lucky to be alive!! He did build another G and went back to the mile race I though? Talk about about balls! That still doesn't explain why this car just disappeared off the radar completely?

NICE!!!!! Glad to see the 08 code has been cracked.

I don't think the GEN IV code has been cracked...they are running a Motec which takes control over the stock PCM.

The only thing for the GEN IV without adding a MOTEC or AEM is the MOPAR PCM.

Correct, has not been cracked.

However, AEM is not an option for Gen-4, and in fact, the AEM controllers for all Vipers in general are out of production. For G4, the only choices are Pectel and Motec. Similar price tags, similar capabilities, similar quality, different packaging. The Mopar PCM is a very mild-modification-only controller upgrade.

The last time I heard about this particular car in question, it was running fine, but was shredding TR6060's on a somewhat regular basis @ high boost. It had a straight-cut billet gear-set installed in the TR6060 case, and it apparently held together fine. That was the last I heard about the car.

And yes, that particular car was a Motec controlled car.

It is for sale on their site for 125K. My question is where you could get it serviced other than by them. It looks like a very complex piece and may be a one off piece.

Have either one of them built a Gen IV twin turbo like this? If not, servicing the car in the event of a problem would be, at best, a learning experience. I doubt either one would want to be involved with someone else's build. But if someone does not mind shipping the car back to Underground in the event of a problem unique to this build, the car looks like it would be a real hoot to own.

Also note that Heffner's website currently says this about Viper work: "Due to time constraints and limited further developments, our Viper systems and service are currently exclusive to existing and referred clients."

Heffner or DLM down in Florida would probably service it, right?

General service would not be an issue for a good viper tech/tuner familiar with TT's. The only challenge on this car would be tuning issues with Motec. You need to find someone that knows the system. John Reed could be flown in, or the tuner at Heffner does know Motec, etc.

Dan, why do you say the AEM can't work on a Gen IV (assuming someone had an AEM box)? Could it not be run along with the factory ECU? Have you tried it?

-For starters, it would be an installation nightmare so far as AEM goes, as it is a JTEC based controller, and the VENOM controller is not JTEC. The VENOM has a completely different layout. It would end up being as much or more work than a Standalone installation.

-The AEM does not have enough ignition drivers, so you would be in the same boat as trying to get a Gen-4 to run on an SQ6 controller.

-I don't believe the AEM can even read the Gen-4 Crank/Cam trigger configuration correctly, it is much more complex than earlier cars.

-Camshaft control in AEMPro is very limited in capability compared to Pectel/Motec, and does not even appear to be able to correctly run the Gen-4 Camshaft. It is primarily set up for VTEC [On/Off] Cam control, not a continuously variable camshaft.

-The Venom Controller defaults to Limp Mode very easily, so you can bet your bottom dollar that if you try to leave any controls to the VENOM that have to do with running the engine, they are going to be a fight to keep running correctly.

No, I have not tried it, and as far as I know, no one else has either. There are far too many apparent "issues" to overcome to justify the potential waste of time that is more than likely going to result, especially when factoring in that it is an obsolete design, and there are better options available that everyone knows WILL work.

Should be interesting. I've got a friend that is trying to get one to work on his car. I'll let him post if he wants to, but the car should be finished by early November.

Hey, I wish him luck! The key is long-term usability and stability however- curious to see the result, regardless.

Final GTS,

When you go with an aftermarket controller like a Motec on a Gen 4, does the Venom controller get completely bypassed? I was wondering if the things like the antilock brakes, seat sensors, airbags, etc still work. Is there anything that does not work on the vehicle when using a Motec to control the system?

Hopefully we'll see more of these twin turbo type systems that work with a Gen 4.....an 800 to 900 hp ACR would be a blast.

Cheers,
George

Final GTS,

Almost forgot about this question so I'm bumping the thread. Do all the "other" things (air bag, anti lock brakes, speedo, seat sensors, etc) work when going with something like the Motec?

If I understood an answer to one of the posts, you can't run both together, it's either one or the other :dunno:

Thanks in advance,
George
