Can anyone who installed one of the comp coupe style hooks or the yellow solid metal versions tell me where they are attached to the cat at, or better yet a pic of the installation?
Steve, The rear hook is mounted into one of the body slots on the rear of the frame, left side if I remember correctly, the front is mounted on the ~1.25 round cross framing menber in front of the radiator and comes out through the front bumper. I sold my car or I would take a couple pictures for you. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will be happy to help if I can. Steve Loudin
Front attaches to the round cross framing member in front of the radiator as stated above. Mine is on the drivers side but it could go on either side. Very easy allen wrench type install - just two fasteners. It does stick out a bit farther than I'd like and could be a real shin buster. I wouldn't and didn't leave it on my street car.
Rear attaches to the passenger side with a large bolt and washer through the oblong tow hook slot at the rear corner and two smaller bolt holes that use the belly pan bolts. Not sure how well this will work when trailering the car. You will have to work this one out as their are other holes to attach the car to the trailer, or you could remove it while trailering. Very simple to remove / replace.
Below are photos of my front hook attached to my SRT-10. I don't often use the rear as I'd have to remove and reinstall when trailering to the track since it uses the rear right "R" hook tie-down frame slot. Also, it hangs down pretty low and I've scraped it a few times. I'm betting that a track tow truck should be able to grab the front most of the time if I'm off in the gravel.
I currently have Prefix custom fabricating a Tow Hook that will feature quick release pins so I can remove it quickly without tools. Once I get the car back, I will photograph and share some images.
