How many times are you selling that thing? (You sold it almost a year ago, unless you sold yours in august of 08, and then bought another one in December of 08 (per your statement above of it being bought in dec. 08) and are now selling that one?)

Why would someone by one, sell it , then 2 months later buy another one, and then 10 months after that, sell it again?

Sorry that my memory clicked when I saw your post again, and said 'hey he already sold that.' Just confused on what the deal is. At least its $50 less then what you were selling it a year ago I guess.

Payment sent, thanks Shawn.

Eldon, I noticed you were interested in this Nav unit last year as well. I just saw one on Ebay for $400, but you have to buy another GPS antenna ($25-50). Not sure how old that unit is, though, which is why I bought Shawn's instead.

Got the package today (address was put in wrong by UPS store, was delivered to wrong house). However, manufacture date on the unit was 2003, and the disc says 2002 (at the bottom in small print). There's a generic title that says Navigation DVD.

Would the new 08 disc have 08 written anywhere? Is there a way to check?

Unit looks new, disc looks pretty scratched up though. Just curious if anyone happens to know what is the on the back of their nav units.

Since Dodge sold Shawn the new unit in Dec. 08, I assume he could get the updated disc if the one he got wasn't the latest?

2002 is the copyright date, and this is on the 2008 update disc. What is the version #? This should be below and to the right of the "NAVIGATION" title.

Thanks cyaford. Disc I got was 56038642AD. That's from 03 according to Google :(. Newest is Mar 09 5064033AH.

Shawn - You mentioned you had the receipt from Dec. 08 that you could send me for warranty purposes. Are you sure the unit they sold you was new and not used? I'm sure you thought it was an 08 disc too based on the thread title? Unit looks new even though DVD has scratches. Did you notice scratches on the DVD when you first bought it?

I did see that the Nav disc case said that updates are free within 12 months of purchase. So, with your receipt that shouldn't be an issue. I'm just concerned that the actual unit was misrepresented by the dealer.

Yep, that's an old disc. There's a reproduction 5064033AG on a famous auction site for $40, including shipping. Not the most up to date, but it's the December 2008 release. Hopefully the dealer will come through so this route will not be needed.

It actually is the newest version according to that seller. The "AH" version is an update that locks the hacking capability of the REC nav unit. The RB1 info is the exact same in both the AG and AH versions.

Slyvan - They said the only way to backup the Nav disc is if you have a dual-layer DVD burner and disc. You also have to make sure you put the "split" between the first and second layer in the exact same spot (there's a free program that does this). I am thinking about backing up the DVD when I get it, since I don't want to scratch the original from taking it in and out (can't play a CD at the same time).

As for my DVD, Shawn said the scratched DVD is an old one that came from his first RB1 that he gave to me. The new one is inside the unit. Guess I would have found that out after installing it :)

Peter - How are you using the RB1 if the disc is still shrinkwrapped? The coupon for the free upgrade just asks you for the purchase date, it doesn't tell you to mail a copy of the receipt or anything. Are you sure it's been 13 months ;)?

UPDATE:

I tried buying the 5064033AG DVD (newest available for our car) on Ebay, none available. I found a guy selling them for $40 each, and he said he'd sell them for $30 each if more than 20 people ordered. Send me a PM if you want his email address (he's in Canada, but ships pretty fast).

I heard that worked, but then I read about it being dual layered, needing a dual layer drive, and having the break in the right place. Too much trouble for me :)
