Really going after the female market share I see...But that's better than saying its a "feminine" design. I think using the term "sultery lines" would have been OK. I guess we'll see shortly.

It's funny when an article takes a comment from another author and makes it 'golden'. If you look at their source article (autonews.com), Dodge said nothing of the sort other than
"Gilles says the wraps will be taken off the redesigned Viper during the first quarter of 2012. He would not reveal specifics."

It was the author of that article that guesses it might be at the Detroit Auto Show. While that would make sense and may probably be accurate, nothing is set in stone yet.

Great news and very excited to see what the new model will offer. It looks like the GEN IV will be the last of the drivers car.

Nobody has mentioned this yet? "The 2013 Dodge Viper, the third iteration of the iconic American supercar" I guess in his book, Gen I and II are together and Gen III and IV are together with the Gen V being the third. So do I have a Gen II or Gen III now? Oh I'm so confused! lol

Due to T/C and such?

As long as you can turn that stuff off, you'll have the purity back.

I hate reading things like "One major difference will be the introduction of more driver aids, including advanced stability and traction control systems, in order to make the car appeal more to a wider target audience." It's not to appeal to a wider audience, it's because they're being forced to.

Bruce, you almost quoted Mr Gilles word-for-word, as he spoke at VOI-11.

My close recall is that he said: ' the 2010 will always be a special Viper, the last pure driver's Viper, without drivers aids.'

------------------------
Even the AutoNews quote has errors, claiming best Viper sales year was '03 with 2103 sold. The most Vipers sold was in 1994.... Even allowing for Model Year vs Sales Year, or Production vs sales, '94 was the bigger year.

I suspect Chrysler will want to make Gen 5 a BIG numbers year.....how many Ferraris were sold in 2010? 4000+

We were talking while he was applying the 3rd coat of wax on my ACR.

I hope the new Gen V hits 5000 sold in its first year! I don't know if CAAP is capable of doing that.

When CAAP was turning out Gen 2 + Prowlers, YES, they can do 5000 units. I suspect the assembly line would have to be dual, vs single.... Stay Tuned... wanna bet?

Why do they say "engines" in the article? Plural!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you count service-parts supplier issues, there are 7 'engines' now!

One reason I have posted "THE YEAR MATTERS" 9473 times so far.....

Nah, probably not. You know too much with your "inside" info! I would like to see them pull it off. Viper community needs to grow.

I kind of like the small production numbers....you don't see yourself coming and going....and I have heard New York Auto Show--not Detroit. If you can't sell 1500 08's easily at 90K, at what price can you sell 5000 2013's?

I just hope the "next" Viper is truly a Viper. I would rather the Viper ride off into the sunset than come back as a car that isn't really a Viper at all. Only time will tell.

Agree, and this part: "The 2013 Dodge Viper is expected to be new from the ground up, including engines, chassis and interior. One major difference will be the introduction of more driver aids, including advanced stability and traction control systems, in order to make the car appeal more to a wider target audience," makes me wonder. I understand they probably have to sell more to make it profitable; however, if they want to compete agains the Vette for instance I'm probably not interested. The appeal of owning one is the limited number and raw car plus fantastic looks.

No way. There has not been enough time for a new from the ground up car. This is yet another author blowing smoke.

It also does not make a whole lot of sense for Chrysler to pour that much cash into a ground up Viper project. Also, we saw the pics recently of a Gen IV skiing, as it was being used as a test bed for the Gen V traction control. Strong signal that then Gen V is an evolution of the Gen IV.

The 2008 was simply a re-motored 2003/2006. Not a "New" car.

MY 2013 Gen V will be "all new" in terms of the buying public....and many shied away due to lack of driver aids! They could easily sell 5000 if they offer the sacriligous-to-some PADDLE-SHIFT AUTOMATIC TRANS option. Guaranteed.

The Gen-5 debut will be more like the launch of the GTS
The Gen-5 debut will be more like the launch of the SRT
The Gen-5 debut will be more like the launch of the PROWLER. Yep, the '99 Prowler. Built it for over 12 months
Pent-up demand, speculative buying early on, and more than 12-mos in the build-year = higher volumes.

Trust those that went to VOI 11 when we say it will not be an evolution of the current GEN IV body style. Completely new. Not like Porsche does where they change minor things for the new model year. As far as the traction control pic that were released earlier, the GEN IV cars are available to Chrysler/Dodge and they don't have to worry about spy photo's of the new body style getting out. Don't forget...they were working on a GEN V Viper before the merger with Cerberus so it's possible to have a completely new Viper.
