So today I brought my GTS in for A/C work (4th time is a charm). After sitting in the customer service lounge for a little over an hour, they still hadn't started working on my car (typical for appointments at this dealership). I wandered out to see when they might get started. A few minutes later they drove the car into a service bay. Where it sat, untouched, for another half hour. I finally hear the rumble of it starting up and decided to check it out. Glad I did!

They had opened the hood to look in and decided it needed to be moved to a different bay to go on a lift. They put the hood partway down - just the back and not the front. They literally put the car in reverse when I ran behind it and yelled "DON'T MOVE IT!" Here is a lesson for you newer owners and inexperienced dealerships: When the Viper hood is open in the front (past the latch) and the back is down, the back part of the fender is literally touching the tire. Crank the wheel either way in this position and you will damage the fender(s)! I remember one of the folks posting here that they did that when moving the car from the wash bay to the vacuums and snapped a chunk off of the fender when they turned the wheel while it was moving. I pointed this out to the Viper tech and the driver and they both looked like deer in headlights. They apologized profusely and thanked me endlessly.

Oh yeah, and the A/C still isn't fixed. They suspect a slow leak and ordered two hoses for it - the only thing in the system that hasn't been replaced except for the control knobs!

Please tell me this not the dealership that is holding the tech session this weekend. Glad you were there to prevent the damage.

AAAAGGGGHH!! That is horrendous! Those morons. If they're that stupid then imagine the catastrophes that could/will happen when you're NOT around.

This is clearly not an experienced dealership and one that you don't want working on your viper Chris. You should make two big smoking black streaks outta there ... with a long high wailing scream of "A$$HOLLLLLLLES" trailing in the wind behind you.

Gary - Not the same dealership, although I suspect the dealership we are scheduled with has even less experience. I am told they are a new dealership with new employees. I am afraid I am going to pass on this particular tech session.

Eric - It is the lesser of SEVERAL evils. The other dealerships barely understand the Viper to begin with, and some are notorious joy riders. I know that this tech is very good with cars in general (the only guy that shows up in his Harley t-shirt and surgical gloves) and is very patient with me as I often watch to see what is being done (curiosity more than anything). I think he (and the driver) just don't deal with Vipers enough to know any better on the fender deal. Rest assured that they do now! There aren't a lot of Vipers in town and very few are driven enough to worry about service (garage queens). Thus the inexperienced dealerships.

Weird side note: Near our house a very nice one story office building was built and occupied last month. No signs anywhere around it, but security cameras on the corners and key cards to get in. Lots of Chrysler products in the parking lot. Figured it was a government building, as there are many of those in KC. Swung through there in the Viper today to ask one of the people milling about outside. He laughed when I mentioned the government and said, "Nope, we take care of that car you are driving." Turns out it is a new Customer Care Center for DaimlerChrysler and is expected to handle 25% of the calls in the United States. They don't put any signs out so that people don't drop by to complain or ask to get their cars fixed. Pretty cool stuff! My wife wants a job there since it is so close to our house. I may need one too, having been laid off by Qwest yesterday...

Noooooo say it ain't so! I am truly sorry to hear that. Remember if it comes to looking farther afield, give me a call about stuff here in Austin. Hope you don't have to though, what with your family all rooted down and such.

D@mned sh*tty economy!

Good luck Chris.

Chris, you're a better man than I! Because if I would've waited for that many hours, I wouldn't have been happy! Thanks for that info because that's something I did not know.

Gary and Chris,

I had the dealership where we are having the tech session replace the hood springs on my car. I was in awe of how much respect and how much care that took in this repair. The tech called over two other mechanics while he unbolted the hood. Once the hood was loose, they called over another mechanic. Two of them lifted the hood and the other two guided them over to a lift where they had neatly placed 4 rolled up towels to rest the edges of my hood while they installed the new springs. Then they did the opposite while installing it.

They are a class act. I will only go back to them. I used two other dealers in town, one on Metcalf near I435 and the other in Raytown. I will NEVER go back to them.

Nope, no free coffee. And I noticed a nice scratch on the right fender tonight. Don't think I want to take it back to them to fix that part and have them screw up the paint. Sigh...

I would say make them fix it, but sounds to me that they would screw it up more than they already did. Good luck,

Mike
